Rawalpindi: Police have arrested three suspects belonging to two gangs allegedly involved in street crime and recovered four stolen motorcycles, two mobile phones, and a weapon during the separate operations, police said.

According to the police spokesperson, Dhamiyal Police arrested two members of a gang and recovered two stolen motorcycles, a stolen mobile phone, and a weapon from their possession.

In a separate operation, Banni Police arrested the alleged ringleader of another gang and recovered two stolen motorcycles and a stolen mobile phone.

Police said the suspects will be produced before the court with substantial evidence to ensure legal proceedings.

Larkana: Pakistan Peoples Party larkana leaders held meeting regarding Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto dealth Aniversay at city district Larkana at the Public Office, Ghalib Nagar, under the chairmanship of Special Assistant to CM Sindh Khair Muhammad Sheikh here on Saturday In connection with July 5th, Black Day.

The meeting was attended in full strength by officials of the Pakistan People’s Party city district Larkana, the Mayor of Larkana Advocate Anwar Ali Luhur, Presidents of Union Committees, Chairmen of Union Committees, and Presidents of Allied Wings.

During the meeting,Khair Mohammad Shaikh said that it was decided that on July 5th, Black Day, the Pakistan People’s Party dity district Larkana will take out a rally from Begum Nusrat Bhutto Hall to Jinnah Bagh Chowk.

He appealed all officials of the Pakistan People’s Party city district Larkana, the Mayor of Larkana, Deputy Mayor of Larkana, Town Chairmen and Vice Chairmen, officials of Union Committees, Union Committee Chairmen and Vice Chairmen, Councilors, ward officials, officials of Allied Wings, and workers are requested to participate in full strength.

Sukkur: The Academic Council of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) has approved major academic reforms, including adoption of HEC’s dual and joint degree policy and introduction of a mandatory Artificial Intelligence course from Fall 2026.

According to release on Saturday, the 19th meeting of the council was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair. HEC representative Dr. Amjad Hussain attended virtually.

In his address, Dr. Khushk said universities should be measured by the quality of education, research impact and service to society.

Degrees open doors, but research that improves lives builds nations, he said, urging faculty to convert theses into funded projects that address societal challenges. He also called for greater use of AI, integrity and global collaborations in teaching.

The council confirmed minutes of its 18th meeting and reviewed implementation of the Research Policy 2025 and Institutional Research Ethics Policy.

It adopted two new HEC frameworks – the 2026 Policy on Dual, Double and Joint Degree Programmes for collaboration with local and foreign institutions, and the revised Faculty Exchange Programme linking Pakistani universities with the top 300 global universities.

In academic approvals, the council awarded 146 MPhil and 37 PhD degrees on recommendations of the Advanced Studies and Research Board. It also provisionally approved BS schemes of study for Computer Science, Information Technology and Software Engineering.

Other decisions included launch of an LLM programme at the SZAB School of Law, revised BS and postgraduate curricula, new certificate courses, a Diploma in Museum Studies, and inclusion of Fahm-e-Quran courses.

The council approved HEC’s Undergraduate Internship Policy and the revised National Fee Refund Policy 2024, which provides 100 per cent refund up to the 10th day of classes.

For admissions, the council considered a revised merit formula for 2027 with 20pc weightage for Matriculation, 30pc for Intermediate and 50pc for the entry test, against the previous 10-30-60 formula.

Pro vice chancellors, deans, directors, chairpersons, Registrar Muhammad Hassan Halepoto and representatives of affiliated colleges attended the meeting. Council members appreciated the VC’s efforts for promoting quality education, transparency and research at the university.

Bahawalpur: Police arrested 18 accused in a crackdown launched in different localities of the district and recovered drugs, liquor, and illegal weapons from their possession.

According to a spokesman for the police, policemen conducted a series of operations over the past 24 hours, arresting 18 suspects and recovering narcotics, liquor, and illegal firearms from their possession.

He said that police from Dera Nawab Sahib Police Station and City Hasilpur Police Station arrested three suspects involved in the sale of liquor and recovered 75 liters of liquor from their possession.

He added that police from Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Police Station, Uch Sharif Police Station, City Yazman Police Station, Sadr Yazman Police Station, Sadr Hasilpur Police Station, and Qaimpur Police Station launched a crackdown against drug dealers, arresting nine suspects and recovering 3.85 kilograms of hashish, 320 grams of crystal meth and 1,200 grams of cannabis.

In separate operations, police from Sadr Bahawalpur Police Station, City Ahmedpur East Police Station, Sadr Ahmedpur East Police Station, Nowshera Jadid Police Station, Head Rajkan Police Station, and Qaimpur Police Station arrested six suspects and recovered one 7mm rifle, four .30-bore pistols, one .32-bore revolver. Separate cases have been registered against all the arrested suspects, and further investigations are underway.

Multan: A suspected criminal was arrested after sustaining injuries in an alleged police encounter near Hasan Chowk, behind Beconhouse School within the limits of Gulgasht police station,here on Saturday.

According to police,officials signaled three motorcyclists to stop during a late-night patrol.

However,one of the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police, prompting retaliatory firing.

As a result, one of the suspects, identified as Muhammad Dilawar,r/o Muhammadpur Ghotta in Qasim Bela,sustained bullet injuries and was taken into custody.

He was shifted to hospital for treatment.

The two other suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Police claimed the arrested suspect was wanted in several cases of robbery,theft and other street crimes.

Separate teams have been constituted to arrest the absconding suspects while further investigation was underway.
