Bahawalpur: A meeting of the Deans’ Committee was held at the Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS) under the chairmanship of Professor Dr Muhammad Tariq Javed to review measures to promote outcome-based education.

According to an official press release issued here, the meeting focused on teaching quality, research activities, modern educational strategies, innovation, international collaboration, and various initiatives aimed at aligning the university with global academic standards.

The participants reviewed a range of proposals concerning quality teaching, modern instructional methodologies, curriculum enhancement, the promotion of undergraduate and postgraduate education, interdisciplinary research, quality assurance, digital learning, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), research commercialization, and measures to further strengthen an innovation-driven academic environment. The participants of the meeting agreed to strengthen efforts to promote outcome-based education.

Special emphasis was placed on making effective use of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Global Scholars Network to connect CUVAS faculty members and researchers with leading universities, renowned scientists, and international research institutions around the world.

The committee also held detailed discussions on opportunities for joint research projects, international research publications, academic exchange programs, faculty development, advanced research training, scholarly collaboration, and securing competitive research grants, with the objective of further enhancing the university’s international reputation and research excellence.

Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Javed emphasized the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and international engagement as key pillars for strengthening CUVAS’s role as a leading institution in veterinary, animal, and agricultural sciences.

Sargodha: The Police on Saturday successfully tracked down the parents of a four-year-old lost girl and reunited her with her family following a swift search operation.

According to a press release issued by DPO office, the minor girl, identified as Nida Zahra, was found abandoned within the jurisdiction of Shah Nikdar police station, and she was unable to provide any details regarding her identity or home address due to her tender age.

Taking prompt action on the matter, Station House Officer (SHO) Waseem Abbas constituted a special police team to locate the guardians through extensive field inquiries in the surrounding areas.

The police team successfully identified the parents after a successful trace and handed the child over to them following legal formalities.

The District Police Officer (DPO) Sargodha, Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf, while commenting on the incident, stated that children are the future of the nation and their protection and upbringing remain the primary responsibility of parents. He urged the public to ensure the safety of their children at all costs and cautioned against leaving minors alone in public places or with unknown persons.

The DPO further advised parents to make their children memorize home addresses and contact numbers to avoid such distress in case of any emergency.

Multan: Dr Ejaz Ahmad, Associate Prof University of Education Lahore, assumed charge as Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Multan, on Saturday, pledging to introduce greater transparency, efficiency and technological innovation in the board’s examination system.

In his first address after taking office, Dr Ejaz Ahmad expressed gratitude to the Punjab government for reposing confidence in him and described the assignment as a national responsibility. He said he would devote all his efforts to strengthening the institution, improving governance and enhancing the credibility of examinations.

The newly appointed chairman said the timely conduct of examinations and declaration of results, strict adherence to merit, transparency and the adoption of modern technology would remain among his top priorities. These measures, he said, would further reinforce the trust of students, parents and educational institutions in the board.

Dr Ahmad emphasized that BISE Multan could only be transformed into a progressive, modern and exemplary institution through teamwork and the collective commitment of its officers and employees. He added that the values of honesty, accountability, discipline and public service would be promoted across the organization.

Reaffirming his commitment to the education policy of the Punjab government, he said every possible step would be taken to improve examination services and provide better facilities to students.

The charge-taking ceremony was attended by BISE Multan Secretary Khurram Shehzad Qureshi, Controller of Examinations Dr Imran Ahmad and others.

Sialkot: Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif emphasized the importance of quality education and lifelong learning while addressing the annual convocation of a private college in Sialkot.

He expressed satisfaction over the high participation of female graduates, noting that nearly 80 per cent of the graduating students were women, while male graduates accounted for around 20 per cent. He described this as an encouraging sign for the country’s future.

Khawaja Asif said that a well-educated society can never default, stressing that education is the foundation of national progress and economic stability. However, he observed that in some institutions, degrees are awarded without ensuring the required academic standards, underscoring the need to prioritize quality education over the mere distribution of certificates.

?He said that earning a degree should be viewed as the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning rather than its completion. He stressed that knowledge has no limits and encouraged graduates to continue expanding their skills and understanding throughout their lives.

Reflecting on earlier times, Khawaja Asif remarked that although educational institutions were fewer in number during his youth, the scope and value of learning were limitless.

The defence minister expressed concern that some educational institutions focus on awarding degrees instead of maintaining academic standards. He emphasized the need to improve the quality of education and develop curricula that meet the country’s changing social and economic needs.

He added that while political differences are natural, the country’s interests must always come first, urging all political stakeholders to work together for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.

Concluding his address, the minister said his political identity and public standing were made possible by the people of Sialkot. He expressed gratitude to the city’s residents, stating that he and future generations of his family would always remain indebted to the people of Sialkot for their trust and support.

Dg khan: More than 24 illegal LPG filling points operating across the district were sealed during a joint operation, authorities said.

Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Nazar Hussain said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the relevant departments.

During the inspection, officials found several illegal LPG filling points where gas was being filled into vehicle cylinders in violation of safety regulations.

He said the outlets were sealed immediately, and their owners were issued strict warnings against continuing such illegal practices in the future.

During the operation, inspectors also found that several workshops lacked adequate safety equipment, while some were using expired or substandard materials for LPG refilling, posing serious risks to public safety.

Authorities also imposed fines on the owners of the illegal LPG filling points for violating safety regulations and overcharging customers for LPG refilling. Further action will be taken against those found involved in the illegal business.

Sialkot: The Department of Pharmacy and the Anti Narcotics Society, University of Sialkot (USKT), organised an awareness walk to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, reaffirming their commitment to promoting a healthy and drug-free society.

The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, along with Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and students.

Addressing the participants, he emphasized that awareness, education, and collective responsibility are key to preventing drug abuse and encouraged students to become ambassadors of positive change within their communities.

Through initiatives like this, the Department of Pharmacy and the Anti Narcotics Society continue to raise awareness among youth and inspire them to make informed choices for a healthier future.
