Hyderabad: The Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, arrived at Shaheed Benazirabad Airport on Wednesday. He was received at the airport by Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah.

According to details, the Governor of Punjab, along with the provincial minister, will attend the Urs celebrations of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

On the occasion, several officials and political figures were also present at the airport, including Pakistan Peoples Party District President Salim Zardari, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Samad Nizamani, SSP Sameer Noor Channa, In-charge Zardari House Mir Muhammad Siyal, and others.

Faisalabad: City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain paid tribute to martyred Constable Haseeb on his death anniversary and said that sacrifices of police martyrs were an enduring symbol of courage and patriotism.

A smartly turned out police contingent led by CPO presented a formal salute at the grave of martyred constable.

The CPO laid wreath at the grave and offered ‘Fateha’ for the departed soul. He also paid homage to the supreme sacrifice rendered by Constable Haseeb in the line of duty.

Constable Haseeb had embraced martyrdom eleven years ago after fighting bravely against terrorists near D-Ground while performing his official responsibilities, spokesman said.

Faisalabad: National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) have offered Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) to provide facility for the issuance of international driving permit provided proper driving track and office space is ensured.

Addressing a road safety seminar, DIG NHMP Central II Dar Ali Khan Khattak said that traffic discipline was the only criteria to judge the civilized traits of any nation. He emphasized the importance of road safety and said that fatal accidents were rampant in Pakistan which could be averted through precautionary measures only.

He said that 90 percent of accidents were caused due to the negligence of drivers, 5 percent due to dilapidated roads and 5 percent because of technical faults in vehicles. He said the maximum speed limit on motorways was 120 but “we give leverage of 10km to the drivers for the purpose of challan”.

Khattak said the facility of driving permit was currently available in Islamabad, Karachi and Sheikhupura only. ‘The same facility could be provided to Faisalabad if driving track and proper sitting areas could be provided by the FCCI’, he said and added that permits issued by NHMW would be valid for 132 countries and it could also offer job opportunities to the potential individuals to get the job of driver abroad.

He assured to add more road signs and repair of the currently deleted or damaged boards. Earlier, FCCI President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh welcomed the guests and said that textile was the only iconic representation of Faisalabad but now its industrial portfolio had been widened with the addition of many new and hi-tech industries.

He said that FCCI had 22,000 members hailing from 128 sectors and sub-sectors. He said that fundamentally the objective of FCCI was to resolve the issues confronted by the business community but now the chamber had become the mouthpiece of 10 million residents of this city.

‘Upon our demand the stuck up development works have been restarted after a gap of ten long years’, he said and particularly thanked Chief Minister Maryum Nawaz for doling out reasonable funds for the uplift of different projects.

He said that now electric buses were running on the city roads while the metro project was in full gear, however this city still lacks many important facilities including cancer hospital and dedicated civilian airport.

He appreciated the services of NHMP and said that people were forced to follow the traffic rules as soon as they enter on the motorways.

Multan: Deputy Project Director Punjab Development Program Qaiser Raza visited Multan on Wednesday and inspected mega sewerage development projects worth Rs 25 billion, including the laying of 23 kilometres of new sewerage lines.

Managing Director WASA Faisal Shoukat briefed him on the pace, quality and progress of ongoing schemes.

Officials said 23-km new sewerage lines had been laid and dilapidated lines replaced across the city.

Construction of the Jahangirabad disposal station was underway, while disposal stations at Old Shujabad Road, Samejabad and Wahari Road were being upgraded. The Multan Avenue Road and Jahangirabad trunk sewerage line projects were also reviewed in detail.

Faisal Shoukat said the upgradation of disposal stations would significantly enhance drainage capacity, adding that the Jahangirabad sewerage project marked a key milestone in resolving longstanding problems affecting hundreds of thousands of residents.

He said the first phase of the Punjab Development Program had been completed and work on the beautification plan was continuing. Completion of the mega sewerage projects, he added, would ensure timely drainage of rainwater during the monsoon season.

Qaiser Raza said completion of a modern and sustainable sewerage system was a top priority under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and the Punjab government remained committed to providing citizens with modern, safe and effective sewerage infrastructure.

Faisal Shoukat said completion of the Rs 25 billion development projects would bring a marked reduction in Multan’s longstanding sewerage problems.

Multan: Seven people were injured in a road accident near here on Wednesday. Rescue officials said the accident occurred in Head Noubahar area where a commuters van travelling from Jalalpur Pirwala to Multan, collided with a mini truck due to overspeeding.On information, Rescue-1122 immediately dispatched ambulances, motorbike ambulance teams and a rescue vehicle to the scene. Rescue personnel provided first aid to two injured persons on the spot while five critically injured were shifted to the Nishtar hospital, Multan.

Kohat: A constable from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Elite Police Force was killed during a counter-terrorism operation in Swat, the police said on Wednesday.

Constable, Gulfam Khan Bangash, a resident of the Fateh Khan Khel area of Kohat district, was part of an Elite Force unit conducting an operation against suspected militants when he was fatally wounded in an exchange of fire, they added.

The security forces later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down militants who fled after the clash, the officials said.

The authorities said arrangements were underway to transport Bangash’s body to his native village in Kohat for burial with full official honors.
