Lahore: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has said the country’s development and prosperity were closely linked to democracy and strong institutions.

He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) remained committed to constitutional supremacy, democratic values and public service.

He was talking to a delegation of party workers led by PPP’s nominated candidate for PP-67, Chaudhry Shahzad Ali Gill, at the Governor’s House, here on Saturday.

The Governor congratulated Shahzad Gill for mobilising and strengthening the party organisation at the tehsil level.

Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said the PPP believed in the strength of institutions and regarded its workers as its greatest asset. He said the party had always worked for the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and the strengthening of democratic institutions.

The Governor said the PPP was a true representative party of the people, adding that it understood public issues and remained committed to resolving them. He described Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as a young national leader with the ability to steer the country towards progress, urging party workers to strengthen the PPP through hard work and public support. He said the true essence of politics was to serve the people and address their problems through practical measures.

A large number of party workers, including PP-67 Coordinator Chaudhry Muhammad Khurshid, attended the meeting.

Lahore: The Central Business District (CBD) Punjab has changed its priorities for the new financial year.

The CBD administration has decided that instead of new mega projects, the focus would remain on completing the ongoing schemes.

According to sources, during the new financial year 2026-27, the CBD Punjab has prepared a roadmap for its development projects. In the new financial year, instead of launching major development projects, a strategy has been adopted to complete ongoing schemes.

In the past years, the CBD Punjab launched many major development works including Walton Road expansion project, drainage system improvement, CBD Road 44, Nawaz Sharif IT City and Kalma Chowk Underpass expansion projects.

Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that green electric buses have started a new era in the transport sector in the province and their demand from the public is increasing rapidly.

In her statement on Saturday, Azma Bokhari said that citizens of different cities are demanding the government to start electric bus service in their areas as well. She said that under the planning of the Punjab government, electric buses will soon be seen running in 147 tehsils of the province.

According to the minister, 1100 electric buses are currently operating in different districts of Punjab, providing modern, comfortable and eco-friendly travel facilities to the citizens.

Azma Bokhari further said that Punjab is incomparable to any other province in terms of efficiency, good governance and merit, and the government is continuing to take practical steps to provide quality facilities to people.

Lahore: The Edhi Foundation provided free humanitarian and welfare services to thousands of people across Lahore without discrimination during June, according to a monthly performance report released by the organisation.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said the organisation transported 4,741 patients and deceased persons through its free ambulance service during the month. Of these, 1,268 deceased individuals were shifted to their native homes, while the bodies of 31 accident victims were transferred to mortuaries. The foundation also provided emergency transport to hospitals for 287 people injured in road and other accidents.

Under the Edhi Identification Programme, the foundation’s biometric team identified 22 previously unidentified bodies using its biometric system. During the month, the organisation buried 34 unidentified people, including 31 men and three women. Funeral preparations, including washing and shrouding, were also carried out for 62 deceased persons at the Edhi mortuary.

The report said 294 people are currently residing at the Edhi Home in Lahore, while 78 individuals were reunited with their families during June.

As part of its welfare initiatives, the foundation’s free meal programme served one nutritious meal daily to 11,335 deserving people across the city.

The spokesperson said the Edhi Foundation remains committed to carrying forward the humanitarian mission of its founder, Abdul Sattar Edhi, by serving people in need regardless of colour, race or religion. Citizens were also urged to contact the Edhi Control Room by dialling the emergency helpline 115 in case of any emergency or urgent situation.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of two sanitation workers who lost their lives while cleaning a sewer in Chishtian.

The CM extended her heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.

She also directed the relevant authorities to submit an immediate report on the incident and ordered that all necessary legal and administrative action be taken in accordance with the findings of the inquiry.
