Bilawal nominates Barrister Asfandyar Kharl for PS-30 Khairpur-V by-polls


Karachi: The Chairman of PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has nominated Barrister Asfandyar Kharl for PS-30 Khairpur-V by-election.



According to a communique, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has decided to nominate Barrister Asfandyar Kharl son of Saleem Kharal as the Party’s candidate for the PS-30 Khairpur-V by-election.



Barrister Asfandyar Kharl will contest the by-election on the Pakistan Peoples Party’s election symbol, Arrow.



The by-election for PS-30 Khairpur-V has been necessitated following the demise of Member of the Sindh Assembly Naeem Kharl. Polling will be held on 16 August 2026.

2nd Pakistan Banking Summit 2026 kicks off from July 7


Karachi: The Chairman of Pakistan Banking Summit (PBS) 2026 Atif Bajwa on Saturday said that the Pakistan Banks Association (PBA) is going to organize second edition of the Pakistan Banking Summit 2026 from July 7 to 8 at a local hotel.



Addressing a Pre-Summit Press Conference along with Chairman of Pakistan Banks Association (PBA) Zafar Masud at Islamic Chambers of Commerce and Development, the PBS Chairman said that the two-day Summit is the continuity of last year’s summit.



He said that the purpose of the Summit is inclusivity and to bring together the banks at one platform. The Summit will also highlight the importance of the banking sector in the country and it will bring policymakers, bankers, international experts, etc.



Bajwa said that the banking sector is trying its best to grow the economy and he hoped that there is the optimism for the future of the country.



‘We want to execute policies of the government along with the government and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP),’ he said, adding that we have made a significant breakthrough in this regard.



Speaking on the Regional Developments and their impacts on the economy of the country, the PSA Chairman, Atif Bajwa, said that the recent regional developments due to Iran situation have changed the challenges being faced by the country.



He said that the federal government is focusing on digitalization and a cashless economy and the banking sector is also considering it. He said that the government has given another responsibility of remittances to manage them and the banking sector will try to manage it in a befitting manner by keeping in view current challenges.



Replying to a question on Islamic banking, he said that Islamic conversion is a good thing and it is also a direction from the government.



The Chairman of Pakistan Bank Association (PBA) Zafar Masud, on the occasion said that the Finance Minister, Sindh Governor and Ministers will be attending the Summit.



Replying to a question, he said that Rs1.8 trillion has been injected into private credit by the banking sector.



Answering a question, he said that the claims of representation of India in its cashless economy are as they always create hype rather than the reality.

Governor urges int’l community to play role in ensuring implementation of Indus Waters Treaty


Karachi: The Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, met Ms Jennifer Scott, Director of Rotary International, at the Governor’s House. On the occasion, he urged the international community to play an effective role in ensuring full implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty and adherence to international obligations.



The meeting featured a detailed discussion on matters of mutual interest, including public welfare, healthcare, education, clean water, community development, the promotion of peace and the Indus Waters Treaty.



The Governor Sindh stated that water aggression by the neighbouring country constitutes not only a serious threat to regional peace and stability but also a blatant violation of international laws and treaties.



He emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty is an international agreement that cannot be suspended or terminated unilaterally by any country.



The Governor Sindh said that using water, an essential resource, as a tool of political pressure or conflict could pose grave risks to peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.



He further stated that Pakistan has always remained committed to the principles of peace, dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence. He added that the prudent leadership of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Field Marshal in promoting regional peace and stability has been widely appreciated internationally.



He said Pakistan will continue its responsible efforts to promote lasting peace, shared prosperity, and constructive international cooperation.



During the meeting, Rotary International gave a comprehensive briefing on its initiatives related to peacebuilding, clean water, healthcare, education, community development, and humanitarian projects. The Governor Sindh observed that effective collaboration between the government and social organizations could significantly expand the reach and impact of public welfare initiatives.
