“Adopt a Park” programme to be encouraged


Lahore: A meeting of the Horticulture Directors was held under the chairmanship of Managing Director Horticulture Agency Lahore, Ahmed Usman Javed.



The meeting was attended by Additional Managing Directors Rao Tasleem Akhtar and Zona Waheed Butt, Director Finance Ahmed Saeed Manj, and Horticulture Directors.



A detailed briefing was given on the ongoing horticulture activities in different zones, the tree plantation campaign, maintenance of parks, and future planning. Managing Director Ahmed Usman Javed said that horticulture is the core function of PHA and that the beauty, greenery and beautification of Lahore are the foremost priorities of the Agency.



He informed that PHA Lahore is currently managing and maintaining 808 parks and 1, 273 green belts across the city. He said that Lahore has 5 A+ category parks, 178 A category parks, 311 B category parks and 314 C category parks. He said that special attention is being given to the tree plantation campaign and that 32, 566 free saplings have so far been distributed among citizens. He directed that fruit-bearing plants should also be given priority during the plantation campaign.



Ahmed Usman Javed directed that students should be actively involved in the tree plantation campaign, while the immediate repair of faulty water pumps in all zones should be ensured.



He said that the “Adopt a Park” programme would be encouraged. He directed that timely preparations for the Annual Chrysanthemum Flower Show should be started immediately, while comprehensive planning should also be made for holding the Spring Festival in March next year.



The Managing Director announced that PHA field staff would also be provided with caps and jackets to improve their performance and ensure a uniform identity. Earlier, the Horticulture Directors gave a detailed briefing.
