Rescue-1122 Multan region helped out 112,697 individuals last year


Multan: The Punjab Emergency Service (PES), commonly known as Rescue-1122, Multan responded to emergencies and rescued a total of 112,697 individuals during the last year, 2024.



District Emergency Officer (DEO) Dr Hussain Mian released the department’s annual performance report during a meeting at the Central Rescue Station, here on Thursday. According to the report, Rescue-1122 received a total of 486,617 calls in 2024, of which 114,562 were emergency calls. These included 28,682 road traffic accidents, 67,829 medical emergencies, 1,273 fire-related incidents, 3,004 criminal cases, 73 building collapses, 32 drowning incidents, and 13,669 miscellaneous emergencies. Rescue-1122 provided first aid to 60,717 people at the incident site, and shifted 46,885 people to hospitals. As many as 239 people lost their lives at the scene of road traffic accidents. The average response time for all emergencies was 8 minutes, and under the patient transfer service, 4,117 patients were shifted from one hospital to another.



In 2024, the motorcycle ambulance service of Rescue 1122 responded to 60,810 emergencies, showcasing its efficiency in dealing with urgent situations. In addition to human lives, the service also rescued 293 animals and birds, reinforcing its commitment to all forms of life.

in the 13th National Rescue Challenge, where they demonstrated exceptional skills in handling well rescue Operations. Furthermore, the team represented Pakistan in the International Rescue Challenge, where they triumphed over world-renowned teams, securing the title.



Rescue 1122 continued its public awareness campaigns, focusing on accident prevention and emergency assistance. The department provided training in basic first aid and fire safety to students in colleges and universities, as well as to employees working in hospitals, offices, and other institutions. A total of 6,331 individuals were trained in various courses. Additionally, building inspections were conducted for structures over 50 feet tall to ensure fire safety and to protect public life and property.

Awais writes letters to CMs, AJK PM for implementation of energy conservation building code

Islamabad:: Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has written letters to all Chief Ministers (CMs) , Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Federal Ministers for Planning and Science and Technology for implementation of Energy Conservation Building Code 2023 (ECBC-2023) in the relevant building laws under their domain.

In order to increase efficient utilization of energy and reduce its leakages/wastage, the federal minister has stressed on implementation of this code for mutual benefit of government and consumers, said a statement issued by Ministry of Power Division here Thursday.

An inefficient utilization of electricity in buildings results in an increase in utility bills. Similarly in peak summers for managing peak load of 60 to 80 hours, the power sector has to maintain a number of power plants which remain idle for rest of the year due to lower demands resulting in capacity and other allied payments making part of overall electricity tariff. Additionally, energy-efficient buildings contribute to the conservation of natural gas by reducing the need for heating during the winter season.

As the federal minister has identified peak load and its very short duration as one of the major reason for maintaining many power plants in the system, the implementation of the Code will also help in managing the peak demand helping the power sector to reduce operational costs and energy consumption.

The Minister in his letter has proposed two pronged strategy to ensure sustainable development of the power sector and bolster economy of the country through energy efficiency in building sector.

First revision of existing bye-laws by the relevant development authorities/building control authorities, municipalities and local governments to incorporate the ECBC-2023 and secondly integration of this code in the Annual Development programs for public sector infrastructure development.

Awais Leghari expressed confidence that implementing this Code will result in lower operational costs and promote sustainable growth.

The Minister in his letter, mentioned approval of the ECBC-23 by Federal Cabinet and subsequently by National Economic Council (NEC).

The ECBC-2023 is now accessible on the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) website (https://neeca.gov.pk/Download) for the information and use of the general public.

The public is encouraged to utilize this extremely useful resource to advance sustainability efforts.

Thallium Stress Scan equipment at PIC to be made functional soon

Lahore: The only Thallium Scan Gamma Camera Electrophysiology equipment provided for heart patients' treatment at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) here, would be made functional in a few days.

The PIC administration told reporter that the equipment has gone out of order few days back. In PIC, around 40 heart patients are treated daily with this equipment.

It is worth mentioning here that Nuclear Medicine Scan or Thallium stress scan is a test to estimate the amount of blood reaching the heart muscle during rest and exercise. It is typically done to determine the cause of unexplained chest pain or to determine the location and amount of injured heart muscle after a heart attack.

The administration of the PIC told reporter that the spare-parts of the equipment are not available locally and have been sent abroad, adding, it will take few days to start re-functioning.

Dr. Kashif Zafar informed reporter that a complete range of Nuclear Medicine procedures are carried out through this machine, while more than 6000 planar and SPECT Nuclear Medicine studies could be performed through this equipment annually.

Nuclear Medicine Department of the institute is accredited with College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences Nilore, Islamabad for post graduate training in Nuclear Medicine.

WCLA organised several guided tours in 2024 to promote tourism

Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) organised several guided tours in 2024 to promote tourism at heritage sites.

These tours were designed to provide an enjoyable experience to the tourists full of historical exploration.

Moreover, expert tourist guides of the Walled City of Lahore Authority informed the tourists about the historical significance of the monuments. In all guided tours, refreshment was also arranged for the tourists. The Walled City of Lahore Authority has received positive feedback regarding these tours from the tours who appreciated the new initiatives of tourism.

The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) continued the guided tours of Vekh Androon Lahore and History by Night in 2024. Moreover, History by Night tour was improved with addition of new performances such as Sufi dance, Kathak, Sikh and Mughal enacntments. On the other hand, the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) launched new guided tours in year 2024. These newly launched tours include Roshan Galiyan Tour, Tour of Hidden Places of Lahore Fort, 'Yatra' - a tour of Sikh Heritage Sites in Old Lahore, The Tales of Taxali Gate - A guided tour of Taxali Gate, Guided tour of Old Havelis in Androon Lahore, "Museum Mystery" - A Guided Tour of Galleries and Museums of Lahore, guided tours of Bhatti Gate and Lohari Gate and "Fort Fright' - A Horror Tour of Lahore Fort. These tours attracted so many tourists at heritage sites. As per records of WCLA, the number of national tourists at Lahore Fort was 5,325,847; Jahangir Tomb 774,304, Shalimar Garden 1,182,511 and Walled City Lahore 72,267. Similarly, the number of foreign tourists was Lahore Fort 80,070; Jahangir Tomb 6697, Shalimar Garden 4117 and Walled City Lahore 4236.

Asghar Hussain, Deputy Director Tourism, Walled City of Lahore Authority, said, 'We have taken commendable steps in 2024 to promote and enhance the scope of tourism at heritage sites. We have aimed to attract and inspire the public attention to historical monuments. Moreover, we have observed that through our guided tours, we have achieved greater participation and attendance at heritage sites. Registration charges were kept low so that people from all walks of society can come and explore these historical places. We are highly dedicated to not only continue these tours but also bring forth new ideas, strategies and initiatives to significantly increase the tourist engagement at our historical monuments'.

Kamran Lashari, Director General, Walled City of Lahore Authority, also expressed his opinions regarding the tours and said, 'This year has been the most successful for our organization. These tours were carefully designed to captivate a broad audience. As a result, we conducted engaging visits to old havelis, Sikh monuments, Lahore Fort, Royal Trails, museums, galleries, and the historical gates of Old Lahore. Our efforts aimed to foster a connection between the public and historical monuments, encouraging a deeper understanding of the historical significance of our shared cultural heritage. We are planning to introduce additional tourism projects to further promote and develop the tourism industry in our country'.

DIG holds Khuli Kachehri to address public grievances

Islamabad:: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Ali Raza reiterated the Islamabad Police's commitment to resolving public issues on priority during a Khuli Kachehri (open court) on Thursday.

A public relation officer told reporter during the Khuli Kachehri, DIG listened to the complaints of the citizens and marked their applications to the concerned officers for timely action on merit. He also directed them to send reports to his offices in the given time frame.

DIG Raza further said that strict action will be taken against officers involved in bribery or corruption and a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted in this regard.

Raza emphasized that Islamabad Police would not leave any stone unturned to secure the lives and property of the citizens. 'Such interaction would be continued in future to provide maximum relief to the citizens.' he added.

DIG Syed Ali Raza further said that interaction during 'Khuli Kachehris' would help to promote friendly policing and will also ensure self-accountability, immediate resolution of citizens' problems. The protection of life, property and self-respect of citizens comes first, he maintained.

Two-day training workshop for administrative officers begins at UoS

Sargodha: The Human Resource Development Center (HRDC) at the University of Sargodha began a two-day training workshop for grade 17 and 18 administrative officers. The workshop aimed to enhance the skills and capabilities of the university's management staff.

University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of professional development in improving institutional efficiency and effectiveness.

The notable speakers included Prof. Dr. Yousaf Bashir from the University of Gujrat, Director ORIC UoS Prof. Dr. Ahmad Raza Bilal, and Consultant HRDC Khursheed Yousaf. While around 50 administrative officers participated in the workshop.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas emphasized the importance of administrative structure and professional skills in the success and growth of any institution. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Raza Bilal delivered a lecture on Financial Management in Institutions, stressing the importance of proper financial resource allocation and planning. He highlighted financial oversight, budgeting, and efficient resource distribution as key factors in driving institutional growth.

Khursheed Yousaf discussed Systemic Thinking, explaining that a successful institution operates when all systems work in harmony. He urged administrative officers to adopt a comprehensive strategy and broader perspective in problem-solving, ensuring that all systems are interconnected and aligned for better overall performance.
