Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Police during operations against criminals Monday arrested nine accused, including drug peddlers, liquor suppliers and illegal arms owners.

According to a police spokesman, the Gujar Khan Police held accused Aurangzeb with 560 grams of charas, while the Naseerabad Police recovered 520 grams of the contraband item from accused Ghulam Waris. Similarly, the Ganjmandi Police netted accused Ali Haider with five litres of liquor.

Likewise, six accused were held for having illegal arms and ammunition. The Pirwadhai Police recovered a 30-bore pistol from accused Zohaib, while the Sadaqabad Police nabbed two accused Hassan Gul and Ali Raza recovering a 30-bore pistol each from them.

Similarly, the Naseerabad Police also arrested three accused, including Shahbaz and Abdul Rehman with a 30-bore pistol each, and Hassan with an iron punch.

Pattoki: Two persons including a woman were died here Monday after falling into open manhole.

The police spokesman said that a woman namely Zeenat fell into the manhole near Purani Mandi Imam Bargah, adding another man, Kashif tried to rescue her but he also slipped into the hole. Later, the people pulled out the bodies from the manhole, he added.

The police had registered case against two employees of the municipal administration.

Sukkur: Spokesperson to the Sindh Government and Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arslan Sheikh on Sunday expressed grief and sorrow over the death of the mother of Additional General Manager, LU Continental Biscuits Sukkur, Col Retired Shahid Bashir.

In his message here, the Mayor Sukkur expressed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family over her demise.

In another condolence message, Station Manager, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) Sukkur, Jamil Soomro and Chairman District Council Sukkur Syed Kumail Hyder Shah also condoled with AGM Col Retired Shahid Bashir.

They prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

Chiniot: Under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a crackdown against criminal elements is underway across the district.

SHO Langrana Police Station, Inspector Safdar Hussain, In-charge Investigation Sub-Inspector Ehsanullah, along with the team, arrested five accused in robbery cases and thief gang. Stolen goods worth more than eight lakhs was recovered from the possession of the arrested accused. The arrested accused include Shamrez, Allah Ditta, Wasif, Hayat and Imran, from whom further investigation is underway.

Hyderabad: A delegation of international and national agricultural experts, including renowned scientists and academicians from the United States, Trkiye, and Iran, visited Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, to assess ongoing research initiatives and explore collaboration opportunities.

During their visit, the delegation reviewed the state-of-the-art greenhouse established with Trkiye's support and toured various research departments at SAU. They also visited MH Panwar Farms near Tandojam, where they observed the integration of modern scientific tools and technologies in advanced agricultural practices. The primary focus of the visit was to identify research partnerships that could enhance agricultural productivity through innovative techniques.

The delegation included prominent experts such as Prof. Dr. Norman Fraley (USA), Dr. Hseyin Kara (Trkiye), Dr. Hassan Karimi (Iran), Prof. Dr. Murtaza Hosseini (Iran), Dr. Najma Memon, Dr. Saima Memon, Dr. Ali Nawaz Sial, Dr. Tufail Shirazi, Dr. Shahabuddin Memon, and several other distinguished researchers.

During a meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, the delegation was briefed on SAU's academic and research initiatives, particularly its strong collaborations with international institutions in Trkiye, China, Iran, and other global universities. Dr. Siyal emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary research and the role of modern technology in transforming agriculture through global partnerships.

The visiting experts highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, stressing the need for precision farming, soil health management, and climate-resilient agricultural techniques. They shared valuable insights on improving crop yields and soil fertility through advanced analytical chemistry and precision agriculture methods.

They further noted that international collaborations would strengthen global agricultural research networks, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise to promote sustainable and efficient farming. The adoption of modern agricultural technologies, they emphasized, would ultimately benefit the global agricultural sector by enhancing productivity and resilience.

Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar, Director University Advancement and Financial Assistance, and Ghulam Sarwer Panhwer, Co-Chairman of MH Panhwer Farms were also present on the occasion.

Multan: A one-day road safety workshop was organized at Basti Malook Patrolling Post with active participation of traders, community groups, respected social figures, motivational speakers, and the staff of patrolling post. SSP Patrolling, Muhammad Saleem Khan Niazi, attended the event as the chief guest. He briefed the distinguished guests about community policing and road safety measures. Addressing the workshop, SSP Patrolling Muhammad Saleem Khan Niazi emphasized: "Life is given only once; wear a helmet for the sake of your children." During the workshop, certificates of appreciation were distributed among PHP volunteers, road safety ambassadors, and law-abiding citizens. Additionally, helmets were distributed to highlight the importance of road safety. The event was also attended by DSP Amjad Hussain Khan, In-charge Patrolling Post Sub-Inspector Muhammad Hamza Shakoor, Licensing Branch In-charge Shahzad Sarwar, PRO, and other staff members of Punjab Highway Patrol.
