Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM). Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday extended felicitations to the nation on the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (Makkah Accord) by Pakistan. Saudi Arabia and Trkiye. and described it as a historic accord reflecting the depth of the three countries’ brotherly bonds. shared values and common commitment to peace. security and stability.
The deputy prime minister said the accord was signed in the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah on Friday. August 7. 2026. and called it a significant milestone in Pakistan’s longstanding strategic relationships with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Trkiye. He said the agreement embodies the three countries’ shared resolve to strengthen cooperation in addressing the evolving peace and security challenges facing the region. a DPM’s Office news release said.
The DPM/FM reiterated that the Makkah Accord is defensive in nature and is not directed against any country. He said its purpose is to strengthen collective deterrence against external aggression and reinforce the three states’ capacity to defend their sovereignty. territorial integrity and peoples.
Under the accord. an armed attack against any one of the three countries shall be regarded as an attack against all. consistent with the inherent right of individual and collective self-defence under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. DPM Dar said.
He added that Pakistan remains firmly committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes. respect for sovereignty and international law. and the pursuit of regional peace. stability and prosperity. The Makkah Accord. he said. is not an instrument of confrontation but an expression of the three countries’ collective commitment to peace through strength. solidarity and mutual respect.
DPM Dar said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the Foreign Office of Pakistan played a pivotal role in bringing the accord to fruition. and commended their leadership and vision in safeguarding Pakistan’s national interests and strengthening its strategic partnerships with Saudi Arabia and Trkiye.
