Hyderabad: In compliance with directives from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) continues its crackdown against electricity thieves and defaulters with the support of law enforcement agencies.

According to the HESCO spokesperson Saadiq Kubbar, the operation was being carried out under the instructions of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Faizullah Dahiri, in coordination with the DISCO Supporting Unit (DSU).

During an ongoing operation, the power supply to the Customs Office, Hyderabad was disconnected due to outstanding dues amounting to 50 million rupees.

On this occasion, the SDO operation sub-division M.M. Shah emphasized that defaulters must clear their electricity dues immediately; otherwise, their connections will be severed, and legal action will also be taken. He further stated that strict measures would continue against power theft without any discrimination.

The HESCO authorities had urged consumers to pay their electricity bills on time to avoid disconnection. The administration warned that further action would be taken with the assistance of Rangers, police and other law enforcement agencies to recover outstanding dues.

Peshawar: In recognition of their dedication to journalism, fifteen distinguished journalists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be honoured at a prestigious ceremony celebrating their contributions to the field.

The awards, presented in collaboration with the Directorate of Youth Affairs and District Youth Office Peshawar, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aim to acknowledge the vital role of journalists in shaping public discourse and holding institutions accountable.

The recipients of the awards included Arshad Aziz (President and Editor, Jang Group Peshawar), Yawar Abbas (Dawn News), Adnan Khan (Mashriq TV), Adeel Saeed (Associated Press of Pakistan), Syed Adnan (Investigative Journalist, The Frontier Post), Saifullah Kohistani (CEO, Kohistan TV), Dr. Bakht Zaman (Journalism Educator), Ihtisham Khan Afridi (UrduPoint.com, Peshawar), Khalida Niaz (Journalist and Advocate for Women's Issues), Razia Mehsood (First Female Journalist from South Waziristan), Shahab Ur Rahman (Samaa TV), Izhar Ullah (KP Correspondent, The Independent UK Urdu), and Bilal Ahmed (Video Journalist, BBC Urdu).

These journalists have played a critical role in covering political developments, public health, security concerns, social justice, climate change and investigative reporting, often in challenging conditions.

Their work has brought national and international attention to key issues affecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from governance and human rights to climate change and regional stability.

The event is set to be one of the largest gatherings of media professionals, policymakers, and youth leaders in the province, with over 10,000 attendees, 100+ exhibitors, and 50+ national and international partners expected to participate.

By honoring these journalists, the initiative aims to inspire future generations to pursue ethical and impactful journalism, strengthening the role of media as a pillar of democracy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Gilgit: Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Abrar Ahmed Mirza visited the Shahi Polo Ground Gilgit on Monday. He was accompanied by Commissioner Gilgit Division Sardar Haroon Asad, Deputy Commissioner Amir Azam Hamza, and other relevant officials.

During the visit the Commissioner briefed the Chief Secretary on the current condition of the ground, ongoing development projects, and existing challenges.

The Chief Secretary instructed immediate action to improve cleanliness, restore green areas, and particularly enhance the condition of washrooms.

He directed the concerned authorities to develop a comprehensive plan for the renovation and upgrading of facilities to ensure a high-quality and comfortable environment for both spectators and players.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that the Shahi Polo Ground holds significant cultural and traditional importance for Gilgit-Baltistan, hosting national and international tournaments annually. Therefore, all necessary steps will be taken to maintain and upgrade the facility to meet international standards.

He further stated that the cleanliness of public spaces and the improvement of basic facilities are among the government's top priorities, urging all relevant departments to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

During his visit the Chief Secretary also reviewed the ongoing development projects at the Shahi Polo Ground and directed officials to ensure their timely completion.

Peshawar: A five-day anti-polio campaign has begun in Dir Lower on Monday, aiming to vaccinate 332,570 children under the age of five.

The campaign, which will run from February 3 to February 7, involves 1,442 teams tasked with administering polio drops across the district.

To ensure the campaign's success, 317 area in-charges have been appointed to monitor and supervise the efforts.

Additionally, around 21,000 police personnel and 250 Dir Levies forces have been deployed to provide security for polio workers.

Deputy Commissioner Dir Lower, Muhammad Arif Khan, has directed district administration and health department officials to visit hospitals, transport hubs, and transit points to oversee the campaign.

Orders have also been issued to Assistant Commissioners, Additional Assistant Commissioners, Union Council Chairmen, and field polio workers to ensure all targets are met.

The campaign aims to reach every child in the district and strengthen efforts to eradicate polio from the region.
