Lahore: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said on Friday that a singer, Aurangzeb, had been transferred from Bahawalnagar to Mayo Hospital Lahore, where he had been fitted with an artificial arm, using the bionic technology.

According to a handout issued on Friday, the minister met the singer in Bahawalpur and presented him with a bouquet. He said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the singer's arm was operated on an emergency basis.

During her visit to Bahawalpur, the Punjab chief minister appreciated Aurangzeb's singing and ordered for immediate surgery on his arm. Singer Aurangzeb, who was born without an arm, had also been called to Lahore this week for treatment of his leg.

Additional Secretary Technical Dr. Muhammad Waseem, Assistant Commissioner General Dr. Tamseel Abbas, and officials from Gymkhana, including Muneeb Malik, Bahlul Lodhi, and Aamir Baloch, were present.

Lahore: The Pakistan Society for Training and Development (PSTD) hosted its flagship event, the Women in Business and Leadership Conference 2025 (WIBCON), at a local hotel on Friday.

The mega learning event brought together aspiring leaders, industry professionals, and business experts for a dynamic, full-day experience. Focused on empowering students and young professionals - especially women - the conference provided essential insights, skills, and confidence to help them thrive in leadership roles and entrepreneurial pursuits.

According to a press release, women play a vital role in driving economic growth and innovation in today's rapidly evolving landscape. However, many still face significant challenges in breaking barriers and securing leadership positions. To bridge this gap, the PSTD, in collaboration with the Women Development Centre Sargodha and Idea Think Tank, organised a dynamic platform for young professionals to engage in insightful discussions, gain practical knowledge, and connect with accomplished industry experts.

A key highlight of the conference was the participation of 26 students from the University of Sargodha, who benefited from hands-on learning experiences designed to enhance their leadership and business acumen. The event featured workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, equipping attendees with essential industry insights and business skills.

The students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sargodha; Dr. Nargis Abbas from the Women Development Centre, Sargodha; Professor Uzma Ashiq Awan, Associate Professor at the University of Sargodha; representatives from the University of Punjab, Lahore; the Idea Think Tank team, especially Mehwish Khan; and journalist Suleman Abid. They described the conference as a transformative experience that deepened their understanding of modern business dynamics and inspired them to explore new career pathways in leadership and entrepreneurship.

Lahore: Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Naziroglu has said that mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye can be an example for other Muslim countries.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting during his visit to Punjab University, here on Friday.

PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali welcomed the delegation. Turkish Consul General Durmus Bastug, PU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Director External Linkages Yamina Salman, Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam and officers of the Turkish Consulate were also present.

Expressing his views, the Turkish ambassador said that Turkiye and Pakistan could make great progress by utilising each other's resources. He said that they were working on an academic roadmap between Pakistan and Turkiye. The ambassador said, "We need to further strengthen our relations with each other." He said that he wanted to promote joint research in the universities of Turkiye and Pakistan.

The Turkish ambassador said that Turkiye and Pakistan were also cooperating in defence sector, and added that the two countries would also promote cooperation in the fields of science and culture. The ambassador said that he wanted to work together in the fields of engineering and medicine and also wanted to start a dual degree programme in the universities of both countries. Irfan Naziroglu said that the universities of both the countries would also organise an education fair. He wished that the MoUs between the universities of both countries be functional.

PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that relations between Muslim countries could be further strengthened through the OIC platform. He said that Turkiye and Pakistan think alike and any Pakistani feels at home when he visits Turkiye. The VC said, "We will play our role in promoting relations with Turkiye." He said that there is a need to institutionalise Pak-Turkish joint research. Dr Muhammad Ali also appreciated TIKA's projects in Pakistani universities.

Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has said that the Punjab government has not imposed any restrictions on meeting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder.

In response to Barrister Saif's statement, she said on Friday that the PTI founder's entire family, lawyers and party leaders were meeting him as usual. She said that some people take jail like an amusement park and want no regulations. They want allowing anyone to visit the PTI founder at will, she added.

Azma said that when the PTI runs out of options, its leaders start playing the 'victim card'. Writing letters has neither resulted in any deal for them nor will it in the future, she added.

The Punjab information minister said that 50 PTI supporters protested in London during the army chief's visit, fulfilling the agenda of foreign agencies. She pointed out the contradiction in PTI's claims of representing overseas Pakistanis, as their calls for support had completely been rejected by the overseas Pakistanis. Even today, PTI's politics remains incomplete without mentioning Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, she concluded.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman Friday visited Gujranwala, where he inaugurated two key projects: the Hill Resort on an 11-acre area at a former dumping site along GT Road and a newly-constructed college block at Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School, built at a cost of Rs. 70 million.

During his visit, the Chief Secretary reviewed the Punjab Chief Minister's 'Suthra Punjab Program' and the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign in various parts of the city. He issued necessary instructions to ensure the effectiveness of these initiatives. Commissioner Gujranwala Syed Naveed Haider Shirazi, Secretary Transport Imran Sikandar Baloch, Secretary Communication and Works Suhail Ashraf, and Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed accompanied the Chief Secretary.

In a briefing, the Chief Secretary was informed that the Gujranwala Waste Management Company's dumping site had been relocated, and work had begun on the Hill Resort project near Chianwali on GT Road. The resort will feature 2,000 trees and offer green spaces and recreational facilities for citizens. The Chief Secretary emphasized the timely completion of the project.

Later, the Chief Secretary was briefed on the GT Road Signal-Free Corridor project, which is estimated to cost Rs. 5 billion. The Commissioner Gujranwala also gave briefing on other development projects and CM's initiatives.

The Chief Secretary inaugurated the new college block at Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School and inspected key areas, including DC Road, Commissioner Road, Sialkot Road, and Satellite Town Market. He assessed the progress of the 'Suthra Punjab Program', anti-encroachment operations, and efforts to implement uniform branding across the city.

Lahore: The Punjab Police said on Friday that 677 gangs involved in serious crimes were eliminated during the current year so far.

A spokesman said that 1,609 members of criminal gangs were arrested across the province including Lahore, while stolen property worth Rs. 415 million was recovered from the criminals. As many as 144 vehicles, 1921 motorcycles, 78-tolas gold, 672 mobile-phones and 260 cattle were recovered and handed over to their owners.

Rs 325 million in cash was also recovered from criminals wanted in various incidents.

Punjab Police spokesperson further said that 422 gangs were dismantled in the provincial capital Lahore and 955 accused were arrested. Stolen property worth Rs 211 million was recovered from the possession of criminals. As many as 107 vehicles, 1474 motorcycles, 451 mobile phones, 24 tolas of gold and 22 cattle were recovered in Lahore.
