Lahore: A comprehensive inspection of food and milk supply points was carried out in the last 24 hours, resulting in significant seizures and penalties. According to the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), a total of 1,475 milk collection points, milk carrier vehicles, and 346 meat shops were checked during the operation. Two units involved in the sale of unhealthy milk and meat were shut down, and two cases were registered for violations. As part of the operation, 7,516 kg of substandard meat and 345 liters of harmful, counterfeit milk were destroyed to ensure public health safety. The inspection was conducted under the directives of Punjab’s Chief Secretary in collaboration with the PFA and the Livestock Department.
Director General of PFA Asim Javaid revealed that over 5.46 lakh liters of milk and 1.05 lakh kg of meat were inspected. He further highlighted that 96 food points across the province were penalized with fines amounting to Rs. 8,42,500 for various violations.
“On-site tests revealed that adulterated milk was found and immediately disposed of,” said Asim Javaid. “The veterinary specialist also conducted a detailed examination of the confiscated meat, confirming it was unfit for human consumption.”
Asim Javaid assured the public that continuous measures are being implemented to prevent adulteration in food products. “Those selling diseases in the name of food are enemies of the nation, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards such practices,” he emphasized.
