Lahore: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar chaired a video-link meeting at the Central Police Office on Thursday, attended by senior police officials, including Additional IG Operations Punjab Shahzada Sultan, AIG R and D Sajid Hussain, AIG Development Abdullah Lak, and all RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs.

The meeting reviewed key performance indicators (KPIs), development projects, and security arrangements for the ICC Champions Trophy. Discussions covered electricity and fencing theft along motorways, with Shahzada Sultan briefing on 188,800 cases registered for electricity theft, resulting in 183,120 arrests, while 6,241 suspects remain at large. Additionally, 212 arrests were made for fencing theft, with 203 cases registered and stolen fencing worth millions recovered.

The IGP Punjab emphasized zero tolerance for crimes causing losses to the national exchequer and ordered for continued police support in the electricity theft crackdown. He ordered swift action against fencing theft and strict legal measures against factories purchasing stolen materials.

For the Champions Trophy, he said that targeted search and sweep operations should continue under SDPO supervision, with foolproof security for players, officials, and spectators. He also stressed the timely completion of Smart Police Stations and Safe Cities projects across Punjab.

Lahore: Left-hander opening batter Imam ul Haq will join Pakistan squad as a replacement after opener Fakhar Zaman got injured during the opening match against New Zealand in Karachi the other day.

According to the ICC press release, issued on Thursday, the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 has approved Imam ul Haq as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman in the Pakistan squad.

Twenty-nine-year-old Imam, who has played 72 ODIs, was named as a replacement after Fakhar was ruled out due to an oblique injury.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager - Cricket), Sarah Edgar (ICC Senior Manager - Events), Usman Wahla (PCB Director - International Cricket Operations), Shaun Pollock (Independent Representative).

Lahore: A 10-member media delegation from Bangladesh visited the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) here, on Thursday.

Radio Pakistan Lahore Station Director Dr Ahmer Sohail Basra briefed the delegation about the working of the radio. He also threw light on Radio Pakistan's history and apprised the delegation regarding various programmes being broadcast currently. Dr Ahmer Basra said that 38 radio stations were working in different cities across the country. Members of the delegation also visited different sections of Radio Pakistan Lahore.

Pictorial documentary of Radio Pakistan was shown to the delegation members in Noor Jahan Auditorium. Songs sung by singers Runa Laila, Shehnaz Begum, Bashir Ahmad were also played. Radio Pakistan Lahore Music In-charge Saleem Bazmi also gave a live performance, which was appreciated by the visitors.

The delegation also visited podcast section of Radio Pakistan besides witnessing the old piano placed in the building. The delegation also had a group picture. PID DG Shafqat Abbas Khan was also present.

Later, the delegation visited Pakistan Television Corporation Lahore Centre. PTV Lahore Centre General Manager Qasier Sharif briefed the delegation about the working of Pakistan Television and apprised them about various channels of PTV including PTV Sports, PTV Home, PTV World and others.

Later, the delegation visited the area where pictures of various artists were displayed. Members of the delegation also visited various studios including morning show studio, current affairs studio etc. At the conclusion of the visit the delegation had a group picture.

Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has achieved a historic milestone by collecting record revenue of over Rs. 3.55 billion in a single public auction, held on Thursday.

Under the special efforts of DG LDA Tahir Farooq, the auction process continues to show remarkable improvement. The auction was held at Expo Center, Johar Town, where 42 properties, including residential and commercial plots, educational sites, market sites, dispensary sites, apartment sites, restaurants, canteens, and salons, were successfully auctioned.

A commercial plot located on Jail Road, Gulberg V, was auctioned for 1.88 billion rupees. Additionally, an apartment site in Johar Town B-1 fetched 436.6 million rupees, while a commercial plot in Jubilee Town was auctioned for 162 million rupees. Other significant auctions included an education site in OPF Scheme A Block sold for 179.6 million rupees and a commercial plot in Civic Center, Johar Town, which was auctioned for 87.6 million rupees.

Lease rights including an education site in Mustafa Town for 20.8 million rupees, a restaurant site at LDA Sports Complex Canal West for 12.1 million rupees, and a rooftop restaurant in Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town, for 7.7 million rupees were also auctioned. Lease rights for a school canteen in Sabzazar, a marquee site in Gujjarpura, and a sports site at Lahore Bridge were also auctioned at competitive prices.

Several commercial plots in Johar Town, Jubilee Town, Mustafa Town, Tajpura, and Sabzazar got significant bids, with values ranging from 5 million to over 37 million rupees.

LDA Auction Committee, along with senior officers supervised the auction process.The auction was attended by Additional DG Housing, Additional DG UP, Director LDA Avenue One, Director Housing, Director Revenue, Director Finance, Director Auction, and Director Education. It is pertinent to mention that LDA had collected revenue of over 2 billion rupees, in last auction, as well.

Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA), during its ongoing operation on illegal commercial buildings and unauthorized constructions across various areas of the city, sealed another 45 properties,besides demolishing an illegal plaza structures here on Thursday.

The operations took place in Gulberg, Faisal Town, Model Town, Allama Iqbal Town and near the Railway Station. In a significant action, LDA teams demolished an under-construction illegal plaza near the Railway Station.

Additionally, 25 properties were sealed in Gulberg, Faisal Town, and Model Town. The LDA also sealed 20 properties in Allama Iqbal Town during the recovery operation.

The sealed properties included private schools, restaurants, workshops, food points, shops, offices, and more. Prior to the operation, multiple notices had been issued to these properties.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Chief Town Planner Asad-ul-Zaman and Director of Enforcement.

Lahore: A delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) visited the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) Headquarters on Thursday.

During their visit, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing from Managing Director Muhammad Ahsan Younas and Chief Operating Officer Mustansar Feroz.

The delegation was introduced to several key initiatives, including Pakistan's first virtual women's police station, the Child Safety Centre, and other departments within the PSCA. They were also briefed on the operations and monitoring capabilities of the Safe City's Operations and Monitoring Centre.

Special attention was given to the advanced features of the 15 Emergency Helpline System and the cutting-edge artificial intelligence-based technologies employed by the Safe City. The delegation was provided with an in-depth briefing on AI-driven traffic violation monitoring systems and software for identifying weapons.

Managing Director Muhammad Ahsan Younas highlighted that Smart Safe City Projects are currently being developed in 18 additional districts across Punjab, with plans to complete the Smart Safe City initiative throughout the entire province in the near future.

Members of the UNFPA delegation commended the Safe City initiative, specifically praising the establishment of the Virtual Women Police Station as a significant and positive step toward ensuring the protection of women and children.

At the conclusion of the visit, gifts were exchanged between the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and the UNFPA, marking a gesture of goodwill and cooperation.
