Lahore: At least 17 people were killed, and 1,627 others were injured in 1,390 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across Punjab in the past 24 hours.

Among the injured, 661 individuals with serious injuries were shifted to various hospitals, while 966 with minor injuries received treatment on-site from rescue medical teams.

The analysis revealed that the victims included 926 drivers, 63 underage drivers, 175 pedestrians, and 543 passengers. The data also highlighted that Lahore reported the highest number of accidents with 322 accidents, affecting 390 people. Faisalabad followed with 92 accidents and 109 victims, while Multan ranked third with 91 accidents and 114 victims.

The vehicles involved in these accidents included 1,241 motorbikes, 77 auto-rickshaws, 151 motorcars, 42 vans, 21 passenger buses, 38 trucks, and 124 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts.

Lahore: The Punjab Home Department has regularised the services of 40 contract employees of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.

Punjab Secretary Home Noor-ul-Amin issued the regularisation orders and extended his congratulations.

According to the spokesperson for the Home Department, these employees in grade 1 to 5 had been working on contract basis since the establishment of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency. They include drivers, security guards, dispatch riders, naib qasids (office assistants), gardeners and sweepers.

Lahore: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has ordered an immediate inquiry into the elevator collapse incident at the orthopedic ward of Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

On Thursday, the minister directed Medical Superintendent (MS) Professor Faisal Masood to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report at the earliest. He assured that those responsible for the incident would be held accountable, stating that negligence in patient safety would not be tolerated.

Lahore: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday recorded the statements of three prosecution witnesses against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers in a case of torching a container at Kalma Chowk during May-9 riots.

The court adjourned further proceedings until February 24, summoning additional witnesses to testify.

ATC Judge Arshad Javed conducted the trial proceedings at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where incarcerated PTI leaders Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed were produced. Other accused individuals out on bail also appeared before the court.

On February 10, the court indicted 21 accused, including the PTI leaders, in the case.

The Naseerabad police had registered a case against PTI leaders and workers over the torching of a container at Kalma Chowk during the May 9 riots. Several PTI leaders, including Mian Aslam Iqbal, Hammad Azhar, Hamid Raza Gillani, Murad Saeed, Wasiq Qayyum, and Zubair Niazi, have already been declared proclaimed offenders in the case.

Lahore: Left-hander opening batter Imam ul Haq will join Pakistan squad as a replacement after opener Fakhar Zaman got injured during the opening match against New Zealand in Karachi the other day.

According to the ICC press release, issued on Thursday, the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 has approved Imam ul Haq as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman in the Pakistan squad.

Twenty-nine-year-old Imam, who has played 72 ODIs, was named as a replacement after Fakhar was ruled out due to an oblique injury.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager - Cricket), Sarah Edgar (ICC Senior Manager - Events), Usman Wahla (PCB Director - International Cricket Operations), Shaun Pollock (Independent Representative).
