Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a comprehensive package of Own Source Revenue (OSR) development projects for six divisions, focusing on road construction and expansion, drainage, beautification, sports facilities, sewerage and solarization. She chaired a special meeting to review OSR development projects proposed for Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad divisions, here on Monday. The CM directed that each scheme be completed according to a clearly defined timeline and prescribed quality standards. The approved projects include construction and expansion of dual carriageways, road carpeting, footpaths, kerb stones, cat-eyes, lane marking and roadside drainage.
Other schemes cover sewerage and drainage systems, small stadiums, sports arenas, beautification works and solarization of disposal stations. Taking notice of uneven manhole and sewer covers on roads, the chief minister directed that all manholes and covers be maintained at road level to ensure public safety and a smooth road surface. She also prohibited the unauthorized collection of any charges from shopkeepers. CM Maryam Nawaz ordered a complete ban on digging or damaging newly constructed roads after completion of development schemes. She directed that standard roadside drainage, proper signage and lane marking must be incorporated into every new road project.
She also ordered that road projects be kept completely dust-free during construction and sought separate timelines for each scheme. For Lahore, the meeting approved beautification of 10 roads, including Egerton Road, Lytton Road, Davis Road, Lower Mall, Lawrence Road, Queens Road and Bank Road. The beautification of Lakshmi Chowk, including artwork on the Metro track and pillars, was also approved. The CM directed the beautification, cleaning, plantation and mural painting of the Orange Line train track along Multan Road. Construction and expansion of roads in Lahore’s suburban rural areas were also approved. In Kasur district, road construction and expansion, solar streetlights and beautification projects were approved, while five projects involving sewerage, pumping stations and road infrastructure were cleared for Sheikhupura district.
The meeting approved 42 OSR development projects for Multan Division, including dual carriageways, lane marking and drainage schemes in Multan and sewerage and drainage projects in suburban areas. Development schemes were also approved for Khanewal, Kabirwala, Mian Channu, Jahanian and Tulamba. Six schemes were approved for Vehari district, including road projects and solarization of disposal stations, while six projects in Lodhran covered a children’s park, streetlights, road construction and expansion, and beautification.
The meeting also approved 12 projects for Bahawalpur, three for Rahim Yar Khan and eight for Bahawalnagar. Similarly, 13 projects were approved for Sahiwal, four for Okara and 14 for Pakpattan, covering road construction and beautification, solar streetlights, sports arenas and other civic facilities. For Faisalabad, 13 road construction and rehabilitation projects were approved, along with six projects in Chiniot and 18 in Jhang.
A shopping arena and food street will be developed in Toba Tek Singh, while sports and badminton stadiums will be constructed in Kamalia. In Rawalpindi Division, 13 projects were approved for Rawalpindi district, six for Attock, four for Murree and seven each for Jhelum and Chakwal. The CM also sought details of development projects for Hasan Abdal, Hazro, Kallar Kahar and other tehsils, stressing that all schemes should be implemented within their approved timelines while ensuring quality, cleanliness, road safety and proper civic infrastructure.
