Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday chaired a special meeting on Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education,where a detailed report on patient attendance and treatment at public hospitals across the province was presented.
The meeting was informed that patient numbers at major public tertiary-care hospitals in Punjab had increased by 16 per cent, with the total number of patients treated at major government hospitals exceeding 45.7 million.
Outpatient department (OPD) visits increased by 21 per cent,while inpatient admissions rose by 11 per cent and emergency patients by nine per cent.
The report showed a 26 per cent increase in internal medicine patients,followed by 12 per cent in cardiology and 10 per cent in surgery.
Similarly,the number of children and skin patients visiting public hospitals increased by nine per cent each while ENT patients recorded a seven per cent rise.
The meeting was also informed that more than 2.1 million parcels of cancer and cardiac medicines had been delivered to patients.
