Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani paid a detailed visit to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi, where he inspected various departments of the hospital and reviewed risk assessment measures, fire safety equipment and arrangements, as well as staff attendance. The Medical Superintendent of Benazir Bhutto Hospital, heads of relevant departments and other officers accompanied him during the visit.
Commissioner directed the hospital administration to identify locations where IR cameras should be installed to ensure the prompt detection of smoke. He also inspected the emergency exit routes and directed that all emergency exits must remain open and accessible at all times. He stressed that no obstruction or storage of equipment should be allowed along emergency routes.
While reviewing emergency and fire safety drills conducted at the hospital, Commissioner directed the concerned officers to conduct regular practical exercises to deal with fire incidents, earthquakes, short circuits and other emergency situations. He emphasized that such drills were essential to ensure that hospital staff could respond promptly and effectively in any emergency.
Commissioner also reviewed fire safety arrangements, firefighting equipment, emergency alarms and other protective measures.
He directed that all fire safety equipment must remain fully functional and ready for use at all times.
Reviewing the emergency duty roster, the commissioner directed that adequate staff must be available round the clock in the Emergency Department and all other critical sections and that no shift should face a shortage of staff.
Commissioner further directed that the hospital’s electrical systems, wiring, generators, oxygen supply system and other sensitive installations should be inspected regularly to prevent any potential accident in a timely manner. He emphasized that no compromise could be made on fire safety and emergency response arrangements in hospitals and directed all concerned officers to perform their responsibilities with complete professionalism.
He also instructed the hospital administration to ensure regular monitoring of all safety arrangements, emergency exits, fire safety equipment and duty rosters. He said that once hospital will provide the certificate that as required measurements regarding risk management have been taken, administration will hire a third party who will evaluate all these measurements.
