Court extends physical remand of PTI leader Taqi Raza Khan in May 9 case

Lahore

Lahore: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday approved a further three-day physical remand of PTI leader Taqi Raza Khan in a case related to the burning of police vehicles during the May 9 violence at Afshan Chowk.

ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill passed the order after police produced the accused before the court following completion of his previous physical remand.

The police sought further physical remand, stating that a baton had been recovered from the accused but his mobile phone was yet to be recovered and the investigation was still incomplete.

Appearing on behalf of the accused, Advocate Yousaf Wain opposed the request for further remand, arguing that his client was already on interim bail in the Jinnah House attack case.

He said Taqi Raza Khan had been arrested in the present case after three years and had already spent 16 days on physical remand.

The defence counsel requested the court not to grant any further physical remand.

The prosecution, however, maintained that the accused’s physical remand was necessary to complete the investigation.

The court allowed the police three more days of physical remand.

Taqi Raza Khan has been arrested in FIR No. 103/23 registered at Sarwar Road police station.
