Lahore: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi on Friday reviewed ongoing road engineering and redesigning work at Defence Morr, reaffirming the Lahore Traffic Police’s commitment to resolving longstanding traffic issues and improving traffic flow.
During his visit, the CTO reviewed practical changes being introduced in road design and traffic management at the intersection.
He said the turning lane at Defence Morr had been widened from 22 feet to 33 feet, which would significantly improve the road’s vehicle-handling capacity.
‘After the proposed road engineering improvements, the capacity of Defence Morr will increase from 6,000 to 9,000 vehicles per hour,’ Shirazi said.
He said the average speed at the intersection had increased from 15-20 kilometres per hour to 40-45 kilometres per hour following the road engineering measures.
The CTO said the length of vehicle queues was also being reduced from 400-600 metres to around 100-150 metres.
He said the crossing time for citizens at Defence Morr would decrease from 85-110 seconds to 45-60 seconds, while the overall travel time would be reduced from five to six minutes to around two to three minutes.
Shirazi said the improved traffic management measures would also help significantly reduce daily carbon emissions caused by traffic congestion.
‘Carbon dioxide emissions resulting from traffic congestion will decrease from 6.4 tonnes to around 3.2 tonnes per day,’ he said.
The CTO said modern traffic rationalisation and improved road engineering would provide citizens with faster, safer and smoother travelling facilities while reducing congestion and improving overall traffic movement at Defence Morr.
