Digital transformation gains pace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is rapidly advancing on the path of digital transformation, with technology driven reforms being implemented to improve public service delivery, transparency, revenue collection and governance.

The provincial government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, is translating the vision of PTI into practical initiatives aimed at creating employment opportunities for youth, strengthening the economy and establishing a modern, transparent and citizen-friendly system of governance.

Digital transformation in the province is no longer merely a concept, as digital platforms have become an operational part of public services, revenue collection, payments and government processes.

Under the Cashless KP initiative, digital transactions worth Rs 6. 8 billion have been carried out across the province, while Rs 4. 3 billion in revenue had been collected through digital revenue channels by March this year.

Similarly, digital payments through Paymir generated Rs 726 million in revenue during March and April, while the achievement against the digital revenue target linked with Paymir stood at 112 percent.

As part of efforts to equip young people with marketable skills, 870 youth from the merged districts have completed training in employable digital skills.

The government has mapped 795 public services for end-to-end digital delivery, while 800 services are undergoing business process re-engineering for digital redesign. A total of 462 services are part of the KPITB digital transformation pipeline, with 219 services fully operational on Cashless KP platforms.

The KPITB FinTech Unit has digitalized 149 services, exceeding the target of 133 services, while progress in digitizing payment services through the unit has reached 112 percent.

Furthermore, 34 provincial departments have been connected with Cashless KP under agreements with the State Bank of Pakistan and 1LINK.

The provincial government has set a target of reducing paperwork in digital government services by 70 percent by December 2026.

Under the Frontiers in Science programme, a research grant of up to Rs 40 million is available per consortium, while the KPITB AI Innovation Hub 2026-2028 programme has been planned for a period of two years.

The initiatives, being pursued under the leadership of Chief Minister, Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, are aimed at establishing a modern, efficient, transparent and citizen-friendly governance system where technology is used not merely to digitize processes but to make public services easier, faster and more accessible.

The provincial government’s digital transformation agenda focuses on greater transparency through technology, improved public convenience through digital services and stronger economic opportunities through enhanced skills for the youth.
