District Qiraat competition concludes in Abbottabad

Abbottabad: The third annual district-level Qiraat Competition, organized by the district administration as part of Ashra-e-Rehmatul-lil-Alameen (PBUH), concluded here on Monday.

Zeishan Akhtar won first position, postgraduate student Maria Bibi secured second, while Qari Khalilur Rehman of Havelian stood third. The winners will participate in the divisional-level competition scheduled for August 20. Around 60 students from government and private schools, seminaries and colleges participated in the competition held at the District Council Hall.

However, participants and organisers expressed concern over poor arrangements, saying the competition started late despite the scheduled 9 am registration. The hall was reportedly locked when participants and judges arrived, while cleanliness, decoration and the sound system were also found inadequate. Participants were provided ordinary biryani boxes.

Concerns were also raised over the certificates issued to participants, which reportedly failed to clearly mention their positions. Participants called for separate categories for men, women and children based on age and gender.

Additional Assistant Commissioner-I Kamran Shah distributed certificates among the position holders and participants and congratulated the winners. District Youth Officer Bushra Masroor, focal person Mazhar Mahmood and other officials were also present.

Meanwhile, a district-level Naat recitation competition will be held at the District Council Hall on Tuesday as part of the Ashra-e-Rehmatul-lil-Alameen celebrations.
