Karachi: Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, while addressing as the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony of the “Statewide Blood Donation and Public Health Drive 2026” at Governor House Karachi, said that a single blood donation can save a precious human life, making voluntary blood donation one of the noblest acts of humanity.
He said that a healthy nation is the foundation of a strong economy, a prosperous society, and a developed Pakistan. He emphasized that awareness, preventive measures, and early diagnosis are essential for building a healthier society.
The Governor Sindh said that public awareness, timely screening, and preventive measures are crucial to combating diseases such as Hepatitis B and C. He appreciated the commitment of Pakistan’s youth, medical and dental students, young doctors, and volunteers, saying that their dedication to serving humanity reflects a bright future for the country.
He further stated that blood donation campaigns, free Hepatitis screening, dental check-ups, and Basic Life Support (BLS) training are significant initiatives for promoting public health. He reaffirmed that Governor House belongs to the people and its doors will always remain open for initiatives aimed at public welfare and healthcare. He also assured full support from the Governor House administration for the successful execution of the campaign.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the Volunteer Force Against Hepatitis Transmission (VFAHT PK), IPAC Foundation, and Omair Sana Foundation, acknowledging their valuable contribution to public health. He said that volunteers are a precious asset of Pakistan and deserve encouragement for their selfless service.
Talking to the media later, the Governor Sindh urged every citizen to undergo Thalassemia screening, adding that free screening facilities are available at NADRA centres. He stressed that both prospective bride and groom should undergo Thalassemia screening before marriage to help prevent the transmission of this hereditary disease to future generations.
Earlier, the Governor visited various awareness, blood donation, and healthcare stalls. He met blood donors, appreciated their spirit of humanitarian service, and reviewed the facilities for free Hepatitis screening, dental check-ups, infection prevention awareness, and Basic Life Support (BLS) training. He also commended the organizers for their efforts.
