Faisalabad received 55mm spell of first monsoon rain

Faisalabad: Faisalabad has received 55 millimeters (mm) spell of first of monsoon rain in the city which prompted Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to keep its entire field formations on high alert and carry out swift drainage operations.



WASA spokesman said here on Sunday that the highest rainfall of 55 millimeters was recorded in Allama Iqbal Colony, followed by 48 millimeters in Dogar Basti. Jail Road and Madina Town each received 45 millimeters of rainfall while Gulistan Colony recorded 44 millimeters and Ghulam Muhammad Abad received 32 millimeters, he added.



He said that operational teams were deployed across different parts of the city throughout the rain and immediately intensified dewatering activities after the rainfall subsided.



The agency utilized dewatering sets and other machinery to expedite the drainage of rainwater and maintain smooth flow of vehicular traffic on major roads and public intersections, he added.



He said that special arrangements had been put in place to tackle rain-related urban flooding.



He said that the operational staff remained present at all major ponding points while machinery continued to function to ensure rapid disposal of accumulated water.



The agency would continue to monitor city’s drainage system and keep emergency response teams on alert to deal with any further spells of rainfall, with the aim of minimizing inconvenience to commuters and residents, he added.
