Abbottabad: Deputy Commissioner Battagram Muhammad Shoaib Khan has urged farmers to adopt modern and climate-smart farming practices to cope with the challenges of climate change, increase agricultural productivity and improve their incomes.
He was speaking at a Mega Farmers’ Gathering and Stakeholders’ Engagement organized by the Agriculture Extension Department, Battagram, under a project aimed at promoting modern agriculture compatible with climate change.
Around 250 farmers, district officers, agriculture experts and field staff attended the gathering.
The deputy commissioner said adoption of modern agricultural technologies and improved farming methods could help reduce production costs while increasing crop yields and farmers’ income.
Agriculture experts briefed participants about modern farming technologies, vertical-net farming, plant protection, crop disease prevention, safe use of agricultural pesticides, climate change impacts, reduction of post-harvest losses and better marketing of agricultural produce.
A consultation session was also held, during which farmers and stakeholders discussed challenges facing the agriculture sector and proposed measures to promote modern farming and improve facilities for farmers.
During a question-and-answer session, agriculture experts responded to various queries raised by the participants.
District Director Agriculture Battagram Shoaib Saleem thanked the Deputy Commissioner, district officers, agriculture experts, field staff, stakeholders and participating farmers for their contribution to the event.
