Lahore: Punjab Food Director General Amjad Hafeez has said that the supply of flour across all districts of Punjab is fully adequate and continuing without interruption.
According to official sources here on Monday the Food department is releasing 5, 000 metric tonnes of wheat to flour mills on a daily basis.
Close coordination with flour mills and field monitoring were being carried out to ensure adequate availability of 10-kg flour bags in the market, he added.
He said that approximately 897, 713 bags of 10-kg flour were supplied to the open market across Punjab on August 2, 2026. The division-wise details are as follows: Rawalpindi 166, 250, Gujranwala 74, 051, Gujrat 46, 722, Lahore 280, 903, Faisalabad 76, 705, Sargodha 21, 345, Multan 67, 323, Sahiwal 30, 998, Dera Ghazi Khan 59, 825 and Bahawalpur 73, 585 bags.
He stated, “The Punjab government is providing wheat to flour mills at the rate of Rs 3, 800 per maund. Meanwhile, a 10-kg flour bag is being sold for Rs 1, 100 and a 20-kg bag for Rs 2, 200 in the open market. ”
Amjad Hafeez said that the demand for flour in the market was currently relatively low. Despite this, the supply of flour was being maintained continuously and in sufficient quantities so that consumers could easily purchase flour at the prescribed rates.
The ample availability of 10-kg bags by flour mills was clear evidence that flour production and the market supply chain remain stable.
Punjab Food DG said, ‘The impression regarding shortage of 10-kg flour bags in the market is completely contrary to the facts. ”
Field monitoring and reports confirm that flour was available in sufficient quantities, he added.
He further said, “If any temporary shortage is identified in any district, the Food department immediately diverts supplies to meet the shortfall. ”
Amjad Hafeez said that the Punjab government was proactively monitoring the availability of flour in the market. The entire process, from the release of wheat to flour mills to the transportation of flour to the market, had been fully digitalised to ensure transparency.
