Former traffic official sentenced to 22 years in jail for embezzlement

Peshawar: An Anti-Corruption Court in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sentenced former focal person and computer operator of Nowshera Traffic Police, Daulat Ali, to a total of 22 years in prison for embezzling money collected through traffic challans.



The court also imposed a cumulative fine of Rs 93 million on the convict. Anti-Corruption Court Judge Asif Rashid announced the verdict after completion of the trial.



Senior Public Prosecutor Anti-Corruption Abrar Khattak said Daulat Ali had been posted as a computer operator with Nowshera Traffic Police and was also assigned duties as its focal person.



According to the prosecutor, the convict caused a loss of more than Rs 90 million to the public exchequer through alleged technical fraud involving money collected from traffic challans.



A case was registered against him at the Anti-Corruption Police Station, Nowshera. Following investigation and subsequent court proceedings, the prosecution established the charges against the accused.



The court, after finding Daulat Ali guilty under various provisions of law, sentenced him to a cumulative 22 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 93 million.
