Islamabad: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday underscored the need to provide modern facilities, quality training and adequate opportunities to young footballers, saying the province possessed immense talent capable of representing Pakistan at national and international levels.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Syed Mohsen Gilani here.
The two sides discussed the promotion of sports, particularly football, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, encouraging talented players, highlighting the province’s football potential at the national level and exploring ways to ensure a brighter future for the sport in Pakistan.
Governor Kundi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had abundant talent not only in football but also in other sports, adding that young athletes should be provided with modern facilities, professional coaching and appropriate platforms to showcase their abilities.
He said talented footballers from Dera Ismail Khan and other remote areas of the province could also excel and represent Pakistan internationally if given proper opportunities.
The Governor stressed the importance of effective cooperation between the Pakistan Football Federation and relevant institutions for the promotion of football across the country.
During the meeting, both sides agreed that grassroots talent hunt programmes, coaching initiatives, regular competitions and improved sports infrastructure were essential to further develop football talent in Pakistan.
PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani appreciated Governor Kundi’s efforts for the promotion of football and support for young players in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and assured him of the federation’s full cooperation in advancing the game.
