Rawalpindi: The Punjab Government has approved the establishment of a permanent vegetable market in Rawalpindi and a temporary one in Murree to ensure consumers have access to essential food items at regulated prices during the Holy Month of Ramazan.
Salma Butt, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food Security and Consumer Protection, said the temporary market in Murree would provide vegetables, fruit and other essentials to residents in the hill district, ensuring uninterrupted supply to both of its tehsils.
She was chairing a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi, attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Dr Hassan Tariq, Chairman Rawalpindi-Islamabad Vegetable Market Sajid Abbasi, representatives of traders’ associations and relevant government officials.
Salma Butt said the provincial government, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was taking practical steps to ensure the public has access to high-quality and affordable food.
She added that ensuring sufficient supply of essentials at reasonable rates for fasting residents during the holy month remained a top priority.
Representatives of trader organisations shared suggestions to make the initiative more effective and assured full cooperation with government measures.
