Multan: Multan Cantonment Board on Tuesday launched a tree plantation drive along the entry points of Multan Cantt under its “Green Cantt” campaign as part of the ongoing monsoon season.
The plantation ceremony was held on the special directives of Cantonment Board President Brigadier Saleem Younis and Executive Officer Sardar Atif Sultan.
Additional Executive Officer Asif Hayat, Cantonment Board member and District Peace Committee member Dr Ali, District Peace Committee member Yaqoob Shaira, Multan Cantt Peace Committee President Qalb-e- Abid Khan, Ijaz Kareem, Garden Superintendent Chaudhry Zaheer, Sanitary Incharge Habibullah Babar and other notables attended the event.
Participants jointly planted saplings of various species and vowed to make the Green Cantt campaign a success. Speaking on the occasion, the participants appealed to citizens to plant more trees and ensure the protection of saplings already planted, urging them to play their due role in making the environment green and clean.
They said trees were not only a beautiful gift of nature but also played a fundamental role in countering the negative effects of climate change, reducing air pollution and providing a clean and healthy environment to future generations.
The speakers emphasized that the monsoon season was highly suitable for plantation, urging every citizen to plant at least one tree and consider its upkeep a national and social responsibility to make Multan Cantt a greener, cleaner and more eco-friendly area.
