Islamabad: A suspect Saad Abbasi arrested in the murder case of martyred Group Captain Asim Tariq was produced before an Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after completing a 7-day physical remand, while prosecutors requested a further 20-day remand for investigation.
The prosecution informed the court that the pistol allegedly used in the killing and a mobile phone have been recovered, but additional inquiry, including a polygraph test, is still required.
The case was heard by Duty Judge Rakhshanda Shaheen at the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad.
During the hearing, Prosecutor Raja Naveed Hussain Kiyani informed the court that investigators had recovered the weapon allegedly used in the murder as well as a mobile phone linked to the case. He stated that further investigation remains pending and that a polygraph test of the suspect is yet to be conducted.
The prosecutor argued that more time was needed to complete the investigation and requested an additional 20-day physical remand of the accused. According to the prosecution, the remaining investigative steps are necessary to establish further details related to the case.
The prosecution formally submitted a request seeking the extension of the suspect’s physical remand for another 20 days.
After hearing the arguments, the court reserved its decision on the prosecution’s request for further physical remand.
