Lahore: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem on Tuesday paid glowing tribute to the 1, 743 Punjab Police personnel who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, saying their sacrifices for peace and security would always be remembered by the nation.
In a message issued on the eve of Police Martyrs’ Day, the IGP said the brave police martyrs had laid down their lives while fighting terrorism, maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
He said the martyrs had sacrificed their present for a peaceful and secure future of the nation, adding that their courage and devotion to duty had become a symbol of pride for the country.
Abdul Kareem also paid tribute to the mothers of the martyrs for their unmatched sacrifices, said Police Martyrs’ Day served as a reminder that living nations never forgot their heroes.
The IGP said the welfare and well-being of the families of police martyrs remained one of the top priorities of Punjab Police, adding that the department would continue to stand by the heirs of its fallen personnel.
Meanwhile, a Punjab Police spokesperson said that, in view of security duties for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), Police Martyrs’ Day ceremonies would be observed with due reverence on August 5.
The spokesperson said guard of honour ceremonies would be held at the graves of police martyrs, while Fateha, Quran Khawani and special prayers would be offered for the elevation of their ranks. Senior police officers would also visit the families of the martyrs to pay tribute to their enduring sacrifices.
