Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police on Tuesday stepped up efforts to strengthen its operational preparedness by providing modern armoured vehicles, utility vehicles, forklifts and motorcycles to police units across the province.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed distributed the vehicles and equipment among district police officers and other senior police officials during a ceremony held here at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.
The equipment package includes modern Dragon APCs, other armoured personnel carriers, bulletproof and Revo vehicles, single- and double-cabin pickups, Hiace vans, 33 forklifts and 25 motorcycles.
The Dragon APCs were allocated to police formations in Tank, Hangu and Buner, while additional APCs were provided to Upper Dir and Mansehra to facilitate secure movement of personnel and strengthen the response to terrorist threats in vulnerable areas.
Revo vehicles were given to Kohat and Torghar police, while Hiace vans were distributed among police formations in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad and the Telecommunications wing.
Swat and Lower Dir received 4×4 single-cabin vehicles, while Hangu and Tank were provided with 4×2 pickups.
The 33 forklifts would be used by various districts and units, particularly for traffic management and removal of vehicles causing road blockages.
Speaking at the ceremony, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said modernising the police fleet was essential for protecting personnel and enabling them to operate effectively in areas facing security challenges.
He said 84 APCs were undergoing technological upgrades to enhance their protection and operational performance, adding that the process of equipping the force with modern vehicles and equipment would continue.
The IGP said the police had also strengthened the protection of patrol vehicles through side armouring, while the latest additions would further improve mobility, response time and field operations.
He said the provincial police force was being modernised through better equipment, training and technology to improve law enforcement, maintain lasting peace and provide more efficient services to the public.
