LAHORE:The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday reserved verdict on a petition against discharging former chief minister Punjab Parvez Elahi in three cases registered by Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab.
The single bench comprising Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad heard the petition filed by the ACE Punjab.
The ACE’s prosecutor had argued before the court that a judicial magistrate discharged Parvez Elahi in three cases. He submitted that the magistrate did not have any powers to discharge an accused from the case. He submitted that the magistrate abolished investigations and the recovery process with the illegal orders. He submitted that the police could recommend the discharging of an accused, if it considered that sufficient evidence was not available against the accused. He pleaded with the court to set aside the orders of discharging Parvez Elahi.
However, Parvez Elahi’s counsel opposed the plea and submitted that the magistrate could discharge any accused if he was satisfied that sufficient evidence was not available against him.
The court, after hearing detailed arguments of the parties, reserved verdict on the petition.
