Hyderabad: Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro organized the two-day child health conference 2026 on October 2 and 3 under the theme, ‘From Survival to Wellbeing: Stronger Children, Healthier Communities, Brighter Tomorrow.’
Vice Chancellor LUMHS Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan attended the inaugural session as the special guest and emphasized that child healthcare must go beyond survival to ensure that children grow, develop and thrive.
According to the LUMHS spokesperson, addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan said the conference theme highlighted the responsibility of healthcare professionals and society to ensure not only the survival of children but also their healthy growth, development and overall wellbeing.
He said child health remained one of the most important priorities for society, adding that research, education, improved clinical practices and collaboration could make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.
The vice chancellor congratulated the department of pediatrics and the organizing team for arranging the academic gathering and appreciated the participation of distinguished speakers and healthcare professionals. He expressed hope that the two-day conference would promote productive discussions, generate new ideas and strengthen collaborations for improving child healthcare.
The conference was organized by the department of pediatrics, LUMHS with the aim of highlighting key issues in child health and promoting approaches focused not only on child survival but also on healthy growth, development and lifelong wellbeing.
The inaugural session was moderated by Dr. Zamir Ahmed, Dr. Khuda Bux Khoso and Dr. Fozia. It commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem and a special performance by children.
Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaikh delivered the welcome address. The Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences, LUMHS along with Medical Superintendent LUH Hyderabad/Jamshoro Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hassan Memon addressed the gathering as guests of honor.
The scientific session on Perinatology featured expert presentations on important aspects of maternal, newborn and child health.
Prof. Dr. Haleema Yasmeen spoke on ‘Optimizing Perinatal Care: Bridging Survival and Lifelong Wellbeing,’ while Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Memon discussed the importance of breastfeeding, focusing on the journey from first bonding to stronger protection.
Prof. Dr. Naheed Parveen highlighted the impact of maternal nutrition on early development and growth. Dr. Muhammad Hussain Shah discussed the ‘Golden 1st Hour of Life of Newborns.’
The scientific session was followed by a panel discussion comprising Prof. Dr. Nusrat Nisar, Prof. Dr. Shazia Memon, Dr. Saeed Nazeer, Prof. Dr. Chetan Das, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rehman Siyal and Dr. Roohi Nighar.
As part of the pre-conference activities, two workshops were also conducted. The conference provided a platform for healthcare professionals, researchers and experts to discuss advances, challenges and evidence-based approaches in pediatric and perinatal healthcare, with a focus on improving health outcomes and promoting the overall wellbeing of children.
