Hyderabad: Deputy Commissioner Matiari Muhammad Danish Zakir on Monday said that the district administration was continuously monitoring the current monsoon situation and that all relevant departments must remain on high alert to effectively respond to any anticipated rainfall or emergency situation. He directed all concerned departments to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and ensure that machinery, manpower and other essential resources remain fully operational at all times to safeguard the lives and property of the public.
He expressed these views while chairing a review meeting to assess the current monsoon situation, review measures taken so far and evaluate preparedness for the upcoming phase of the 2026 monsoon season.
According to a handout, during the meeting, officials from the concerned departments gave detailed briefings on the measures implemented since the onset of the monsoon, the challenges encountered and their overall performance. They also informed the meeting about contingency plans and preparedness arrangements for expected future rainfall. A comprehensive review was conducted of the district’s functional and non-functional drainage systems, pumping stations, installed pumps, diesel engines, standby generators, desilting of drains and waterways, availability of machinery and equipment used during heavy rains, additional machinery on standby, healthcare facilities, ambulances, medicines, vaccines, medical staff and the availability of relief supplies for emergency situations.
Deputy Commissioner directed all relevant departments to ensure an active field presence, continue coordinated efforts for the prompt drainage of rainwater from low-lying areas, keep rescue and medical services available around the clock and maintain all resources in a state of readiness through planning to ensure an immediate and effective response to any emergency.
The meeting was attended by officers of all relevant district departments, representatives of NGOs and members of civil society, who also presented their suggestions and recommendations regarding ongoing monsoon response measures and future preparedness.
