Hyderabad: On the directives of the district administration Matiari, various awareness activities were organized on the occasion of World Rabies Day to raise public awareness about rabies. The activities were jointly arranged by the health and livestock departments and included an awareness seminar, a rabies awareness walk and a free vaccination camp for dogs.
An awareness seminar was held at the DHO office Matiari under the chair of DHO Dr. Zahid Sadar. Doctors, paramedical staff and representatives of civil society participated in the seminar. On the occasion, Dr. Zahid Sadar said that nine Anti-Rabies Centers had been established across Matiari district, where rabies vaccines were available.
Dr. Zahid Sadar advised the public that in case of a dog bite, the wound should immediately be washed thoroughly with clean running water and soap for at least 15 minutes. The affected person should then reach the nearest Anti-Rabies Center without delay and receive vaccination according to the doctor’s advice. An aw
areness walk on rabies was also held at the conclusion of the program.
Meanwhile, the livestock department also organized an anti-rabies awareness walk in connection with world rabies day, led by assistant commissioner Hala Dr. Mazahir. AD livestock Dr. Habib Shaikh, deputy director Dr. Riaz Ahmed Laghari, deputy director veterinary Dr. Farooq Laghari, deputy director wocial welfare Tariq Rahim Lako along with other doctors, officers and concerned officials participated in the walk.
Addressing the participants, assistant commissioner Dr. Mazahir said that the walk was organized to create maximum awareness among the public about rabies. He said that dogs kept as pets or for security purposes should be vaccinated against rabies on time, adding that the livestock department had vaccines available for dogs.
Deputy Director livestock Dr. Riaz Ahmed Laghari said that it was essential to create greater public awareness about dog bites and prevention of rabies.
In addition, a free rabies vaccination camp for dogs
was organized at the government veterinary hospital Matiari / animal health extension center Matiari, where free vaccination was provided to pet animals.
