Multan: Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has achieved a significant reduction in transmission and distribution (TandD) line losses during the financial year 2025-26, saving 293. 8 million electricity units, bringing an estimated financial benefit of Rs8. 32 billion to the distribution company.
According to Mepco spokesman, the company reduced its TandD line losses by 1. 6 percentage points during the fiscal year through an effective strategy aimed at improving operational efficiency and curbing electricity theft.
The utility implemented a comprehensive plan across the 15 districts of South Punjab under its jurisdiction. As part of the strategy, Advanced Power Management System (APMS) devices were installed on transformers feeding high-loss feeders to ensure continuous monitoring and efficient operation.
Mepco also intensified anti-power theft operations with the assistance of the Disco Support Unit (DSU) and law enforcement agencies. The crackdown yielded encouraging results and contributed significantly to lowering system losses.
The company’s progressive TandD line losses declined from 13. 5 percent in FY2024-25 to 11. 9 percent in FY2025-26, reflecting an improvement of 1. 6 percentage points.
On a monthly basis, TandD line losses also showed a marked decline. Compared with June 2025, the loss ratio in June 2026 decreased by 3. 4 percentage points, falling from 16. 1 percent to 12. 7 percent.
Mepco attributed the achievement to effective monitoring, improved operational practices, and sustained efforts to eliminate electricity theft, resulting in substantial financial savings and enhanced efficiency of the power distribution system.
