Lahore: The 53rd meeting of Management Committee of Punjab Pension Fund (PPF) and the 24th meeting of Management Committee of Punjab General Provident Investment Fund (PGPIF) were held at Darbar Hall, Civil Secretariat on Tuesday.
Punjab Finance Minister and Chairman of the Management Committees of the PPF and PGPIF, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman presided over the meeting that was also attended by members of both the committees and representatives of the relevant departments.
The meetings reviewed in detail various financial and investment matters relating to the Punjab Pension Fund and the Punjab General Provident Investment Fund. The participants were briefed on the performance of the funds, investment matters and relevant policy issues.
The meeting also reviewed the investment criteria under the Investment Policy for investments in corporate bonds, Term Finance Certificates and other debt instruments. The relevant agenda item was subsequently approved.
Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that effective, transparent and responsible management of public funds was among the key priorities of the Punjab Government. He emphasized that the principles of fiscal discipline, transparency and sound risk management must be given due importance in investment decisions.
He said that investment opportunities and instruments for pension and other public funds should be carefully evaluated and prioritized on the basis of safety, transparency and sustainable returns, while safeguarding the long-term interests of the funds.
Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman directed that investment policies and criteria should be reviewed regularly to ensure effective management of fund assets in accordance with changing financial conditions and evolving market requirements.
He said that the Punjab Government was committed to promoting institutional improvement, transparency and accountability in financial management. Effective management of pension funds was essential not only for efficiently meeting current financial obligations but also for establishing a strong financial foundation to address future requirements.
