Lahore: Provincial Minister for Health and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Disaster Management Khawaja Salman Rafique Tuesday visited the Provincial Emergency Centre at the PDMA headquarters, where he was briefed on the latest monsoon situation and water flows in rivers.
PDMA Director Abdul Hameed Malik and other officials briefed the minister on the department’s preparedness and the prevailing situation.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said, under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, all necessary measures were being taken to protect Punjab from floods. He said water flows in the rivers were currently normal, while the health, rescue, livestock and other relevant departments remained fully mobilised.
He said flood relief camps, rescue machinery, boats, staff and evacuation plans had been kept ready in accordance with the identified vulnerable areas, while the administration was fully prepared to deal with any emergency.
The minister said Rescue 1122 had been equipped with modern equipment worth billions of rupees, adding that pre- and post-disaster response mechanisms were being further strengthened.
He said PDMA’s preparations this year were considerably better than last year and that water flows during the monsoon, particularly in rivers, were being continuously monitored.
