Lahore: Punjab Minister for Local Government and Community Development (LGandCD) Zeeshan Rafiq on Saturday paid a surprise visit to various areas of Lahore on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and reviewed cleanliness arrangements under the ‘Suthra Punjab’ programme. The minister visited Nishter Town, Kamahan and residential areas along Kasur Road, where he inspected sanitation operations and sought feedback from citizens regarding cleanliness arrangements. Chief Minister’s Focal Person for Suthra Punjab Asim Mahmood and relevant officers accompanied him.
Acting on suggestions and complaints shared by citizens, Zeeshan Rafiq directed the officials concerned to take immediate measures at the spot. He also met Suthra Punjab workers engaged in sanitation duties in the hot and humid weather and encouraged them for their continued efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the success of the Suthra Punjab programme was largely owed to its workers. ‘Workers performing their duties on the streets in extreme heat and humidity are our heroes,’ he said.
Zeeshan Rafiq said the purpose of obtaining direct feedback from citizens was to further improve the sanitation network and make the system more responsive to public needs. He said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had directed Suthra Punjab officers to remain present in the field and monitor operations themselves. ‘I am also conducting surprise visits to review the situation on the ground,’ he added.
The minister said that the Punjab government would take every possible step to facilitate citizens and further improve cleanliness and sanitation services across the province.
