Chiniot: The annual elections of the District Bar Association Chiniot concluded on Sunday with the Nisowana Group securing key positions, including President, Vice President and Joint Secretary, while the candidates supported by the group had already been elected unopposed as General Secretary.
Nisowana Group candidate Syed Shamim Raza Zaidi won the President’s seat by securing 406 votes against his rival Mehr Mazhar Hussain Haral, who obtained 173 votes. Mian Ahmed Rehman Nekokara of the Nisowana Group won the Vice President seat with 326 votes, defeating Malik Maqsood Hussain Khokhar, who secured 254 votes.
For the post of Joint Secretary, Nisowana Group’s Chaudhry Atif Iqbal Luna secured 336 votes against Mehr Zakaullah Haral’s 238 votes. Meanwhile, Mehr Ali Kamran Haral, supported by the Mian Asad Nisar Bhatti Group and Nisowana Group, was elected unopposed as General Secretary. Grand Alliance candidate Usman Zafar won the Finance Secretary seat with 309 votes, defeating Ayaz Rehman Saharan, who secured 267 votes.
Candidates for 10 Executive Committee seats had also been elected unopposed. Following the announcement of results, supporters of the successful candidates expressed jubilation and congratulated the newly elected office-bearers, who pledged to work for the welfare of the legal community, address lawyers’ problems and safeguard their rights. The election process concluded with the formal announcement of the results.
