Islamabad: The National Heritage and Culture Division (NHCD) on Wednesday clarified that no decision has been taken to permanently transfer Buddhist relics preserved at the Peshawar Museum to the National Museum.
The clarification follows reports appearing in some sections of the media regarding the transfer of the relics in connection with the press release issued on September 30, 2026.
The Division clarified that during the meeting, the possibility of bringing the Buddhist relics preserved at the Peshawar Museum to the National Museum on a temporary loan basis for exhibition was discussed.
It reiterated that the proposal did not involve any permanent transfer of the Buddhist relics from the Peshawar Museum to the National Museum.
The National Heritage and Culture Division said the clarification is being issued to remove any ambiguity regarding the status of the Buddhist relics and the proposal discussed during the meeting.
