Multan: The district administration has launched a crackdown against petrol pumps allegedly creating artificial fuel shortage in Multan, and sealed over ten petrol pumps here on Friday.
Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Dr Faisal Saleem, joint teams comprising assistant commissioners, police and Civil Defence conducted surprise inspections at petrol pumps across the district to check fuel stocks, supply chains, dispensing measures and sales records.
AC City Azka Sehar, AC Sadr Waqas Zafar, AC Jalalpur Pirwala Mukarram Sultan and AC Shuja Abad Sana Ram Chand personally supervised the inspections in their respective areas.
During the operation, more than 10 petrol pumps were sealed over alleged irregularities, including tampering with fuel dispensing measures, suspending fuel supply and other violations. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those found responsible.
DC Dr Faisal Saleem said that district administration has started continuous monitoring of petrol pumps to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products. He said, there is no dearth of fuel stocks and any disruption in supply would be met by punitive action.
He warned that strict legal action, including registration of criminal cases, would be taken against petrol pump owners found involved in creating an artificial shortage, hoarding petrol or diesel, or deliberately halting fuel supply.
