District

DERA ISMAIL KHAN:The district administration and the food department in a joint crackdown against hoarders seized 2880 bags of sugar stored at godowns.

According to the district administration, the drive has been launched in line with the instructions of the provincial government to clampdown against profiteers who created artificial shortages of sugar to fleece masses through unjust hikes in prices of the commodity.

Acting on a tip-off, the team led by Assistant Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Farhan Ahmed along with Yarik police raided a place near ‘Pusha Pul’ where they found that 2880 bags were being off-loaded from trucks at stores for hoarding purposes.

Assistant Commissioner Farhan Ahmed sealed the said godown on the spot and said that every attempt to smuggle wheat and sugar would be thwarted.

He said that hoarders and those wholesalers who were found involved in unlawful business practices were heavily fined and strict action was also taken against them as per the law.

He urged people to identify hoarders so that action could be taken against them and overcome the issue of profiteering.
