FIA intensifies crackdown against illegal foreign currency, hawala-hundi business

DERA ISMAIL KHAN:In a crackdown against illegal foreign currency and Hawala-Hundi business in the district, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Dera office arrested three accused after recovering an amount of foreign currency from their possession.



Deputy Director FIA Dera Region Abdul Hai Khan Babar said on the directives of Director FIA KP Nisar Ahmad Khan Tanoli, the FIA team has expedited the crackdown against illegal currency trading and hawala-hundi business in the area, said a press release issued here on Friday.



After receiving information about operation of illegal foreign currency business at Diyal Road, he said, the FIA raided a gas shop/agency and recovered 18150 Saudi Riyals riyal and 138000 amount of Pakistani currency.



The accused- Abubakar and Abuzar were arrested and FIRs were registered against them.



In another action against Hawala-Hundi business, the FIA team arrested the accused Badshah Noor and Jehan Zeb and FIRs were registered against them after Rs255000 of hawala and Hundi amount was recovered from their possession during a raid on a shop at Pir Gilani Market.



In a third raid on a Jeweler’s shop after receiving information about illegal foreign currency business , the FIA team recovered three lac Pakistan rupee, 110 Saudi Riyals and 10 UAE Dirham.



The accused Akhtar Rahim was arrested and an FIR was registered against him.



He reaffirmed the FIA’s commitment to eradicating these unlawful financial activities.
