Junaid Akbar unanimously elected Chairman of PAC

Islamabad:Junaid Akbar Khan has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The nomination was proposed by Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan, Senator Shibli Faraz, and other prominent figures.

Committee members, including MNA Riaz Fatyana, Malik Amir Dogar, Wajih Qamar, Sardar Mohammad Yusuf Zaman, and others, expressed their full support for Junaid Akbar Khan's candidacy.

Following his election, Junaid Akbar Khan thanked the committee members for their trust and pledged to lead the PAC with full cooperation from all members.

He expressed his commitment to ensuring the smooth functioning of the committee and reiterated his determination to work together with all members, who assured him of their complete support in his new role.

SBP injects Rs10.31 trillion in the market

Karachi:The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) injected Rs10,317.5 billion in the market through reverse repo purchase and Shariah Compliant Mudarabah based Open Market Operations (OMO) on Friday.

The SBP conducted Open Market Operation, Reverse Repo Purchase (Injection) on January 24, 2025 for 7-day and

28-day tenors and, as per results issued, accepted an amount of Rs9,611.5 billion offered through 30 bids.

The central bank received 30 bids for 7-day tenor cumulatively offering an amount of Rs9,611.5 billion at the rate of return ranging between 13.04 to 13.10 percent while no bid was received for the 28-day tenor. The central bank accepted the entire amount offered through 30 quotes for 7-day tenor at 13.04% rate of return.

Meanwhile, SBP also conducted Shariah Compliant Mudarabah based Open Market Operation for the 7-day and 28-day tenors and further injected Rs706 billion into the market..

The central bank received 5 bids for 7-day tenor quoting an amount of Rs906 billion at the rate of return ranging between 13.08 to 13.12 % while no bid was received for 28-day tenor.

The SBP accepted an amount of Rs706 billion offered through 5 quotes for 7-day tenor at 13.08% rate of return. Total amount offered at 13.08% was Rs600 billion out of which SBP accepted Rs400 billion on pro-rata basis.

Quetta:Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Science (BUITEMS)'s professor Dr. Hidayatullah Khan on Friday said that provision of awareness to officers on modern techniques is important for decision-making.

He expressed these views while delivering a special lecture on the topic of decision-making and problem solving to the civil gazetted officers enrolled in the 42nd mid-career Management Course at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) Quetta.

He urged the officers to play their role for betterment of the departments and the country.

The participants took special interest in this lecture and asked questions. Dr. Hidayatullah gave satisfactory answers to all these questions and shed light on various aspects.

Five law-violators arrested

Sargodha:The Shahpur police Friday raided different localities and arrested five alleged criminals.

Those arrested included two proclaimed offenders, Waheed and Javed. The accused were wanted in 33 heinous cases including dacoities, robberies, cattle theft and others.

Police also recovered valuables worth Rs. 2.5 million from them.

UN Women Pakistan delegation visits PSCA headquarters

Lahore:The United Nations Women Pakistan delegation visited the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) headquarters, here on Friday.

The delegation included the Chief of Mission/Country representative of UN Women Pakistan along with other officials. The delegation was briefed by Managing Director Muhammad Ahsan Younas and Chief Operating Officer Mustansar Feroze. The delegation was briefed about Pakistan's first virtual women police station, Child Safety Centre, and other departments. They were also briefed about the Operations and Monitoring Centre of the Safe City. The delegation was informed about the advanced features of the 15 Emergency Helpline System and the modern artificial intelligence-based system.

A detailed briefing was given on AI-based traffic violations and software for identifying weapons.

Managing Director Muhammad Ahsan Younis stated that Smart Safe City Projects are being set up in 18 more districts of Punjab, and very soon, Smart Safe City Projects will be completed across all of Punjab.

Participants of the UN delegation expressed their thoughts, saying that Safe City has done commendable work for the protection of women and children. The establishment of the Virtual Women Police Station for women is a positive step.

Later, gifts were exchanged between the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and UN Women Pakistan.
