Sports Event for Girls Teachers 2025 held in Sialkot


Sialkot: The 2025 Sports Event for Female Teachers, organised by the Higher Education Department in Sialkot, was attended by a large number of female educators, who thoroughly enjoyed the event.



Under the guidance of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, it marked the first time a sports field had been specifically created for teachers, with various sports competitions held across different institutions.



The event officially began on January 18, 2025, and has now concluded. A total of five sports competitions were held for female teachers, including badminton, table tennis, cricket, tug of war, and chess. Teachers from the Government Allama Iqbal Graduate College for Women brought honour to their institution by securing victory in the fifth competition. The Government Associate College of Commerce participated in the badminton and table tennis events at the Government Allama Iqbal Graduate College for Women, while the Government Graduate College for Women Hajipura Sialkot took part in the tug of war. Chess competitions were held at the Government Associate College of Commerce, Sialkot.



Participants, along with the principals of the women’s colleges, hailed the event as a highly welcome initiative, providing teachers with an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent.



Speaking at the event, Professor Tahira Fateh Muhammad, Principal of the Government Associate College of Commerce, Sialkot, said that it was a joyful and exciting occasion organised by the Higher Education Department, giving teachers a unique chance to display their sportsmanship. Also present at the event were Professor Zaiba Zahoor, Principal of Government Allama Iqbal College for Women, Sialkot; Professor Rehana Kamran, Principal of Government Graduate College for Women Hajipura Sialkot; and Professor Gulzeb Waqas Awan, Principal of Government Nawaz Sharif College for Women, Pasrur Road, Sialkot.

Indian Republic Day will be observed as Black Day IIOJK: APHC


Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has said that January 26, the Indian Republic Day will be observed as Black Day on Sunday in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir(IIOJK).



According to reporter, the day will be marked by a complete strike in occupied Kashmir and anti-India demonstrations and rallies in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan and the world capitals will be held to give a strong message to the world that India, being usurper of the Kashmiris’ fundamental rights has no right to celebrate the day in the occupied territory.



The APHC spokesman, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar and through social media massages said the oppressed people of Kashmir will never forget the sacrifices of people and massacres of Spore, Gawa Kadal, Srinagar, Handwara and Bijbehara of this month and in fact Indian occupation of Kashmir is a blot on the face of its democracy and secularism.



He urged the people to observe a complete strike on January 26 to protest against India’s illegal occupation and state terrorism so that India’s so-called democracy and ugly face could be exposed to the world.



The spokesman said the people of IIOJK are in no way ready to recognize India’s occupation over their motherland so the people should observe the day as Black Day and hoist black flags on the rooftops of their houses, shops and electricity poles and send a message to the world that it is not a Republic Day but a Black Day.



He termed the arrest and harassment of Hurriyat leaders and activists as the worst form of state terrorism, adding Kashmir is a martial law-like situation, as authorities are not allowing the people to carry out political activities and their voice is being curbed.



He said miseries of the people have increased manifold as the Indian troops, paramilitary and police personnel have geared up surprise frisking and checking across the Kashmir valley and Srinagar-Jammu highway in the name of so-called security measures ahead of India’s Republic Day, 26th January. Even drones and mobile vehicles are being used for the purpose, he lamented.

Anti-encroachment operation continues swiftly


Lahore: A vigorous drive against encroachments is continuing across the provincial capital, aimed at restoring public spaces and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and daily activities.

Assistant Commissioner City Babar Ali Rai led anti-encroachment efforts at DC Complex and the iconic Anarkali Food Street. He also conducted operations at key areas including Jain Mandir Chowk, Fareedkot Road, Mozang, and Safa Wala Chowk, successfully removing illegal encroachments.

Similarly, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Wahga Muhammad Amir Butt, 19 kanals of government land in Manhala was reclaimed. This was part of broader efforts to remove encroachments along Manhala Road, Faisal Bazaar, and GT Road.

In Ravi Zone, Assistant Commissioner Tariq Shabbir led operations at Chah Miran Bazaar, clearing the area of illegal structures and vendors.

Assistant Commissioner Nishter Muhammad Saleem Aasi also supervised anti-encroachment actions, contributing to the city-wide effort.

Fatima Arshad led operations to clear encroachments from prominent areas such as Guru Mangat Road, Ali Road, MM Alam Road, and Firdous Market.

In Allama Iqbal Town, Assistant Commissioner Khawaja Muhammad Ameer Mahmood conducted operations against encroachments on Raiwind Road and reviewed efforts at Thokar Niaz Baig Flyover and Sher Shah Road.

Under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Raiwind Zainab Tahir, an anti-encroachment operation was carried out at Adda Plot in the West Wing Market.

Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza emphasized that the anti-encroachment drive will continue without discrimination until encroachments are completely eliminated. He further stressed that the cooperation of citizens is vital in making the city free of encroachments. The DC also urged all relevant agencies to work in coordination for the successful removal of illegal structures and vendors across the city.

Guidelines issued to farmers for Kinnow harvesting, handling


Multan: The Punjab Agriculture Department has issued guidelines for harvesting and handling the kinnow fruit, a major citrus crop in the country.



According to the department’s spokesperson, Punjab accounts for 95pc of the country’s citrus production, with key areas including Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Layyah, and Dera Ghazi Khan.



Kinnow is the most extensively cultivated citrus fruit in the province. It takes approximately 300 days for a kinnow plant to develop its fruit from flowering to full maturity. In Punjab, the harvesting season for kinnow typically begins at the end of January and extends until March.



The spokesperson stated that kinnow should only be harvested when its skin color changes completely from green to yellow and the sweetness level reaches 10-12pc. Improper harvesting methods, such as pulling the fruit by hand or shaking branches to drop the fruit, can result in damaged fruit and harm to the tree.



To ensure quality, farmers are advised to use pruning shears to carefully cut the fruit close to its stem during dry weather. Harvesting during high humidity should be avoided, as moisture can lead to fruit skin splitting or injuries, making the fruit susceptible to diseases and decay. Proper harvesting techniques not only maintain the quality of the fruit but also protect the health of the trees.



The department urged farmers to adhere to these guidelines to maximize yield and ensure the marketability of their produce.
