Bugti expresses concern on Sinjadi coal mine accident, directs to arrest accused

Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti has expressed serious concern regarding the recent coal mine accidents and dissatisfaction with the performance of the Mines Department inspection teams.

He has directed the arrest of those responsible for the Sinjadi mine incident.

He shared these views while presiding over an important meeting of the Mines and Minerals Department and representatives of mine owners on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed the accidents that occurred during mining in the province and their causes in detail.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Finance and Mineral Development Mir Shoaib Noshirwani, Opposition Leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Dr. Ibadullah Khan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Balochistan Babar Khan, Additional Secretary Chief Minister Secretariat Muhammad Faridoon, Special Secretary Mines Muhammad Farooq, DG PDMA Jahanzeb Khan and other concerned officials.

Addressing the meeting, the CM said that it is unacceptable that inspectors would not fulfill their responsibilities under the guise of law and order situation issues. He expressed his anger and said that employees who could not fulfill their duties should resign.

He issued instructions to suspend the inspector and hand over the investigation process of the incident to the Chief Minister's Inspection Team (CMIT).

He directed the Mines and Minerals Department to adopt modern mining modules and safety measures used in the world.

The CM stressed the need to ensure regular inspection of mines and equip the Rescue and Training Wing with modern technology. He gave directives to ensure immediate payment of compensation to the deceased workers and ensure registration of all mine workers with the relevant authority.

Directing the Mines Department to prepare a comprehensive proposal, he said that the government would provide the required resources to ensure the prevention of accidents.

The CM made it clear that no incident of negligence would be tolerated in the future.

Once the investigation report of the recent incidents is received, those responsible for negligence will be brought to justice and the lease will be cancelled, he mentioned.

In the meeting, the concerned authorities assured the CM that the causes of accidents and safety measures would be implemented expeditiously.

Police arrest four outlaws, recover illegal weapons

Attock: The district police in an operation against illegal weapons on Tuesday arrested four outlaws and recovered illegal weapons from their possessions.

The police spokesman said Fateh Jang police arrested accused, Husnain Ahmed and recovered a 30-bore pistol with cartridges.

A team of Pindigheb police station arrested an outlaw namely Fizan and recovered 9MM pistols form his possession.

Meanwhile, Hassanabdal police during interrogation recovered a 30-bore pistol from an accused, Muhammad Kamran involved in a murder case.

The police registered separate cases against the accused and launched further probes.

Committee reviews implementation of Anti-Rape Act

Islamabad: The Anti-Rape Special Committee has conducted a comprehensive stocktake of the implementation of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021 at the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Chaired by Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq, the meeting included members of the Special Committee along with participants from PEMRA, NADRA, National Police Bureau (NPB), provincial Home Departments, and other relevant stakeholders.

The session reviewed the progress on three key topics pertaining to the deployment of the National Sex Offender's Register, performance of specialized structures to support survivors of sexual violence and gender-based crimes, and policy considerations to improve implementation of the Act.

The National Police Bureau updated the participants on the successful installation of hardware for the Sex Offenders Register (SOR) at the Gender Crime Cell at NPB, a key milestone in the operationalization of the SOR which will help support investigation and prosecution in sexual violence cases.

The NPB highlighted that data for 94% of eligible entries from 1st January to 30th November 2024 had been collected and was pending entry into the SOR following updates to the digital software. NADRA agreed to provide the necessary technical support so that entries into the SOR can be ensured at the earliest.

Data presented by the Ministry of Law and Justice showed key improvements across the implementation of the Anti-Rape Act, 2021 specifically with regards to availability of Anti-Rape Crisis Cells (ARCCs) and their utilization. Notable improvements were observed in Punjab and Islamabad where referral of cases of serious sexual violence to ARCCs had increased, ensuring better support services for survivors.

Provincial Home Departments committed to ensuring further improvements towards addressing the challenges highlighted during the session and improving coordination between police and ARCCs so that survivors of sexual violence can be better supported.

The Committee also considered policy proposals presented by Ms. Zainab Mustafa, Community Protection Advisor at UPSCALE and member of the Special Committee, for improvements to Pakistan's legal framework to support broader sex offender management and reducing reoffending. The policy recommendations included improvements to the existing Sex Offenders Register's framework to include offenders convicted in other jurisdictions before travelling to Pakistan, strengthening monitoring requirements for convicted offenders, and improving risk assessment and restrictions on offenders after release from prison. These measures will help minimize the risk to society from reoffending in sexual violence cases. Participants in the meeting appreciated the data-driven policy recommendations and agreed to provide feedback in the next consultation session.

The Chairperson concluded the session by thanking participants for their input for ensuring a more comprehensive and effective response to sexual violence in Pakistan.

She further highlighted that despite the progress achieved so far, coordinated and sustained effort was required by all the stakeholders to address lacunas that exist and ensure protection for vulnerable members of society.

CM Bugti directs officers to timely ensure completion of PSDP projects for public welfare

Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday directed the officers to ensure full implementation of the projects of PSDP made for public welfare and to remain in constant touch with the people.

He expressed these views while chairing a review meeting on the progress of the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) on Tuesday.

The pace and quality of ongoing development projects in the province were discussed in detail during the meeting.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, Mir Shoaib Noshirwani, and Sardar Kohiyar Khan Domki, as well as Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Principal Secretary Babar Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Development and Planning Hafiz Abdul Basit and secretaries of all other departments.

The Department of Development and Planning briefed the meeting on the physical and financial progress of new and ongoing development projects of the current financial year.

Expressing strong anger over the slowness and irresponsibility of some departments in development projects, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that delays in development projects undermine public trust and such an approach is unacceptable in any case.

"We have resolved to gradually reduce the problems of the common man, slowness in public interest projects would not be tolerated saying that it is surprising that some departments have not been able to spend even a penny in 9 months", he remarked.

The chief minister clarified that timely completion of public interest projects is the top priority of his government.

He directed that all officers should ensure the implementation of the government vision and carry out the instructions related to public welfare with full responsibility.

He said that he himself would write the ACR of all officers keeping in mind the practical performance adding that there is no doubt that the officers are talented but the issue is about determination and commitment.

Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that no compromise would be made on public interests, all projects would be completed within the stipulated period, no excuse would be accepted in this regard.

The chief minister emphasized that for the first time in the history of Balochistan, 80 percent of the approved schemes have been made part of the budget and the government has resolved that the resources of Balochistan be used for the welfare of the common man.

He said that the public should be informed about the government projects and the opinion of the beneficiaries of these projects should be taken so that every individual is aware of the government measures.

The chief minister said that the promotion and awareness of development projects would end the negative propaganda impression of unbalanced development in Balochistan.

"We have made a firm determination that we would spend the resources of Balochistan on the welfare of the people, a clear policy has been given for the quality and time of development projects and we would not back down even an inch on this", Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said.

At the end of the meeting, the chief minister said that commitment and determination are needed for public service and this is the time for the officers to demonstrate their capabilities in practice.

Agricultural University hosts day-long awareness session on Project, Idea Presentation

Peshawar: The Prime Minister's Youth Development Center at the Agricultural University of Peshawar, in collaboration with the Farabi Sciences Hub, organized a one-day awareness session titled "Project and Ideas Presentation."

Over 100 innovative ideas and projects were submitted during the event.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Jahan Bakht, graced the session as the chief guest.

In his address, he highlighted the challenges faced by students pursuing BS, MS, and PhD research, stating that much of the research remains limited to fulfilling degree requirements. Post-graduation, students often exhaust themselves searching for jobs instead of capitalizing on their research.

Dr. Jahan Bakht emphasized the evolving job market, shaped by modern technology, which offers numerous opportunities for educated youth to create employment for themselves and others.

He discussed the university's efforts to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial opportunities. Under the Higher Education Commission's Prime Minister's Youth Development Center initiative, the university aims to launch the Project and Ideas Presentation program across other universities in the province, introducing student projects to industries for commercialization.

The program also seeks to train new students, helping them overcome challenges in starting research and projects. Dr. Jahan Bakht urged participants to take full advantage of the session and plan their future endeavors.

He commended the efforts of Dr. Anwar Ali Shad, Director of Student Counseling, Placement, and Human Resource Development, along with his team, including Kashif Ali and other experts.

Dr. Anwar Ali Shad outlined the objectives of the session, while Kashif Ali presented insights into the future of work and hybrid/remote models. Guest of Honor Tamim Uddin delivered a talk on Amazon Web Services Cloud Computing. MS students Saira Gohar, Chashman Ali Khan, Hiba Tanveer, Tajdar Alam Khan, Kamran Ali, Ali Raza, Muhammad Saleh, and Abdul Aziz showcased their projects.

Concluding the event, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jahan Bakht praised the students for their dedication and distributed certificates of appreciation among them.

L’aéroport international Hartsfield-Jackson d’Atlanta (ATL) se maintient en tête de classement et se distingue en tant qu’aéroport le plus fréquenté du monde (capacités nationales et internationales confondues) à l’appui de ses 62,7 millions de passagers. Si sa capacité affiche une hausse de 2 % par rapport à 2023, elle demeure inférieure d’1 % à l’échelle de 2019.

L’aéroport international de Dubaï (DXB) se hisse à la deuxième place et mène la danse en matière de capacité internationale. En enregistrant une progression annuelle de 7 %, elle totalise 6,2 millions de sièges. L’aéroport de Tokyo-Haneda (HND) occupe la troisième place du podium avec ses 55,2 millions de sièges, soit une augmentation de 5 % par rapport à 2023. Il est talonné par l’aéroport de Londres-Heathrow (LHR), en quatrième position.

Avec ses 51,5 millions de sièges, l’aéroport de Londres-Heathrow (LHR) termine en 4ᵉ position et reste l’aéroport le plus fréquenté d’Europe, suivi par celui d’Istanbul (IST) et celui de Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG).

Aux États-Unis, les aéroports internationaux de Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) et Denver (DEN) ont vu leurs capacités respectives relevées de 18 % et 24 %, et gagnent ainsi les cinquième et sixième places du classement.

Du côté de la Chine, les aéroports internationaux de Canton-Baiyun (CAN) et de Shanghai-Pudong (PVG) se glissent respectivement aux 7e et 9e rang, à l’heure où la capacité aérienne du pays continue à se relever des effets de la pandémie mondiale. L’aéroport de Shanghai-Pudong enregistre la croissance la plus rapide des dix premiers de sa catégorie, soit une progression de 29 % de sa capacité, ce qui lui permet de passer cette année de la 15e à la 9e place.

L’aéroport d’Istanbul (IST) franchit le cap de la huitième place, traduisant ainsi son importance grandissante comme centre mondial.
