Lahore:The enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority under the directions of Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad, raided a rendering unit located on Manga Road near Rohi Nala and sealed the facility after recovering 16 tonnes of animal intestines and various organs, 700 litres of oil prepared from animal offal and bones and 19 drums of sheep hides and wool.
Food safety team took action after finding the unit involved in producing oil from animal intestines and offal. Team said that the operator was producing oil from animal waste while claiming that the wool was being prepared for export.
Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad said that the unit did not possess the required licence for fat rendering and processing of animal internal organs. He added that mandatory records related to processing, waste management and traceability were also not available.
He further stated that there was no room in Punjab for those who put public health at risk, stating that enforcement operations against those endangering human health in the name of food would continue.
