Karachi: Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi said that the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme is an important initiative aimed at equipping young people with modern technology and enabling them to play a meaningful role in the country’s development.
He said that the Federal Government is making determined efforts to increase Pakistan’s IT exports to US$25 billion by 2030, with the country’s youth playing a central role in achieving this target.
The Governor expressed these views while addressing a laptop distribution ceremony held at the Governor House Karachi as the chief guest under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
Hashmi said that the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme was launched in 2014 and continues to achieve remarkable success. He noted that hundreds of thousands of students have so far received laptops under the programme, enabling them to excel in education, research, innovation, and emerging technologies.
He said that Pakistan’s youth are showcasing the country’s positive image across the world through their talent and capabilities, adding that they represent the nation’s brightest hope for the future. He stated that the present Federal Government is laying the foundation for a modern, digital, and economically strong Pakistan, and equipping young people with information technology skills is a key component of this vision.
The Governor said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is committed to providing the youth with the opportunity to build a prosperous, progressive, and strong Pakistan. He added that empowering young people, increasing exports, and ensuring the provision of essential public services remain among the Government’s foremost priorities.
He said that August is a month of independence, national pride, and the renewal of national commitment. He said that Pakistan came into existence under the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and through the immense sacrifices of millions of Muslims. He added that Pakistan is a strong nuclear power that has produced internationally renowned personalities in politics, economics, science, technology, and defence.
The Governor emphasized that national unity, hard work, and the potential of the country’s youth will enable Pakistan to achieve new milestones of progress. He said that the development of the agriculture, industrial, and information technology sectors is essential for long-term economic stability, and the Government is taking practical steps to strengthen these sectors.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Governor Sindh Nehal Hashmi distributed laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme among outstanding students of the Sindh Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (SIPMandR).
The students appreciated the Government’s initiative, stating that access to modern technology would further enhance their academic performance, research capabilities, and professional development.
